Terry hearing result

An Independent Regulatory Commission has today [Thursday 27 September 2012] found a charge of misconduct against John Terry proven and has issued a suspension for a period of four matches and a fine of £220,000, pending appeal.
The Football Association charged Mr Terry on Friday 27 July 2012 with using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Queens Park Rangers’ Anton Ferdinand and which included a reference to colour and/or race contrary to FA Rule E3[2] in relation to the Queens Park Rangers FC versus Chelsea FC fixture at Loftus Road on 23 October 2011.
The charge was the result of The FA’s long-standing investigation into this matter, which was placed on hold at the request of the Crown Prosecution Service and Mr Terry’s representatives pending the outcome of the criminal trial.
A hearing took place from 24-27 September 2012 before an Independent Regulatory Commission of The FA to consider the charge.
The decision of the Independent Regulatory Commission is as follows:
  • Mr Terry be suspended from all domestic club football until such time as Chelsea’s First Team have completed four competitive matches
  • Fined the sum of £220,000
The Independent Regulatory Commission will provide written reasons for its decision in due course. Mr Terry has the right to appeal the decision of the Independent Regulatory Commission to an Appeal Board. An appeal must be lodged within 14 days from receipt of the written reasons for the decision.
The penalty is suspended until after the outcome of any appeal, or the time for appealing expires, or should Mr Terry decide not to appeal. The reason for this is to ensure that the penalty does not take effect before any appeal so that Mr Terry has an effective right of appeal.

Suarez got a 8 match ban.. I don't see why Terry get's only a 4 game ban? Also, Terry gets fined £220,000 and Suarez only got fined £40,000. Surely they should get exactly the same ban and fine as they are almost identical cases?

Still it looks like he won't be playing against us at the Lane, which is a huge bonus for us :D

So why does Terry only get a 4 game ban as opposed to Suarez getting 8 ?
Its a joke of a decision tbh, as at least Suarez could argue he didn't realise how offensive the term was. Terry should have got at least 12 games. What kind of message does this send to kids.

Terry can't play against us either way, appeal or not. But pathetic decision nonetheless

If John Terry decided not to appeal now he would miss #AFC, #NCFC, #THFC and#MUFC games.

If John Terry waited 14 days to decide not to he'd miss #THFC, #MUFC, #Swans and#LFC games

Dan Roan BBC sports news correspondent

"One of the first questions many people will ask is why the Terry ban is so much less than that handed to Luis Suarez of Liverpool last year. We await the written judgement, which will no doubt explain the difference.

"This is a significant day - the end of an 11-month saga, a case that was dragged through the courts. The language, insults and abuse laid bare have made this a really uncomfortable episode for the sport.

"Terry must now live with that stigma, the ignominy of a ban. It's not a career-ending ban, but it will be interesting to see what Chelsea do. Will they suspend him, drop him or back him? The club has a zero-tolerance policy towards racism."

According to a few people its because Suarez was found guilty of using a word multiple times while Terry was found guilty of using it just once.

Not really sure how that works myself. 4 games for an N bomb and then 1 game for each time you repeat it?

If he decides to appeal he can play til its sorted so obviosly he can play against us if he chose to do that.

Or am I getting this wrong...

I'm sure the club will back him to the hilt. As they have whenever he's got himself in trouble. He won't even get a talking to from the Chelsea hierarchy. 'Keep being JT and carry on' will be their message.

Surely an appeal will do bugger all, the FA have clearly given this a hell of a lot of thought and aren't likely to change their minds. Whether he appeals or not will more than likely hinge on which games they'd prefer to have him for. Can't see him appealing myself, slightly tougher games in the first of the scenarios L-man posted.

As an obvious aside, this decision is a complete joke. Completely the wrong message being sent out. I just hope the charge in itself will be enough to tarnish his name forever. ****.
