Where IOMLS? This is a big pick up for us. As big as the Louisiana Purchase? No....but Guam.....Yes.

Haha, this summer I'll be taking my talents to New Jersey o_O.

Got a new job, so will be moving to NJ (right on the border close to Philly) first and then when our new facility in Florida is completed i'll be transferring down there.

Cool. Probably a lot easier to find fellow Spurs in Philly/Jersey. But I did watch the last WC final in Orlando and the place was really packed. So Florida might be a better market than I realize for you :)

Well if I get down to that area before you leave I am looking you up. No way I can pass up buying one of the legends of SC a few pints and watching a match with him.

I am a new tottenham fan and committed from now on. I'm still young enough that I can make a claim like that. I kind of followed Fulham last couple years then started following Tottenham and it was the style of play, and mainly gareth bale which got me hooked but now I know about all of the players that if/when Bale leaves I'll remain a Tottenham supporter.

Where are you based now? I'm always up for a pint and some football although I'll have to get used to watching football at breakfast rather than evening time and I'll have to start calling it soccer *shudders*

You don't have to call it soccer with fellow football fans. We use football to a fault. I rarely use soccer unless it's......"I love football....blank stare......soccer......nodding (oh he's queer)" :D

But I'm in Boston. Philo is moving here and there's one other guy down in that area who is a good poster. But I am blanking.

I have come to love the morning thing (although it is taking a hit as my son gets into swimming). You can get your games in and have a full day.

Although I remember the United 3-0/5-3 match a decade ago when I told the wife "we can go to the farmer's market, 3 nil is a solid lead". I can't reiterate this enough......some random douchebag in Boston can't affect a match across the ocean :cautious:

I think that another advantage we have is that our name is in pretty much in the same format as most American teams. Place name followed by nickname. The Tottenham Spurs. Perhaps that makes us easier to remember, maybe even more likeable, to people in the USA.

As opposed to THE ARSENAL ****S!!!!!

You guys sure you want to stick with those? We're not 12 years old. There are a few of us here that predate Deuce, and if you think that's the reason any of us stalwarts were attracted to the club then we've done a much worse job than I thought trying to break down the way you guys view American supporters.

This kind of makes me sad. :(

Don't think the context was about the stalwarts, I think it was about new fans being attracted to the game and a club

And it's not that far a stretch, tbh. I now follow San Antonio Spurs (very lightly - I say follow, not a fan because I am not that into basketball) because they always turn up in my social media feeds. So the reverse is probably true too

Spurs pick up the fan who wants to follow a good team, but doesn't want to be seen as a bandwagon fan by jumping on with the big 4. Although to be fair, no one is choosing to support Arsenal or Liverpool right now because of their urge to be on the winning side...

So was it Dempsey, then?

As the name implies, I'm in Hoboken - new York's 6th borough. Anyone passing through drop a bell...

Yeah.

However, with basically most people with a cable subscription having access to every game, I'm sure high quality streams with be a plenty this season...

There is a difference between the single thing that draws your attention to a club and the long period in which you gain an affinity to that club. The San Antonio Spurs example is a great one because I too know UK Spurs fans who began to follow the basketball team because of the shared name, and no other reason. That doesn't mean that their support is superficial, and now they own shirts and watch the games. I'm sure the reverse of this is true as well.

It's not about a perception of American fans its about a perception of global football fans in general. Only a small proportion of them are "die-hard." If this discussion was about Malaysia then i would suggest that a disadvantage for us would be the fact that we don't play in red. This wouldn't stop us having die hard fans but would certainly hold us back in becoming a national brand.

We have the best club name in the premiership. I think this helps us be remembered by American fans. And being remembered is the first step to being liked.

All the games will be streamed. Not all the games will be aired on NBC Sports live. You have to be subscribed to one of the providers that have a deal with NBC to get the NBC Sports Extra app to work (free). This is why we swapped from TWC to U-Verse.

Who knew the secret to the special relationship would be easier access to Premier League streams?
