Spurs have also had the best narrative during the time the game has grown in the US. Dodgy lasagna, the Ramos disaster, the race vs a rich City for 4th, an inspiring CL run, the heartbreak in Munich, and then the redemption of AVB and the emergence of Bale. All of these things form a fairly compelling story that appeals to an innate American desire to embrace the scrappy fighter who keeps getting back up ala Rocky.

Factor in how Liverpool and Arsenal have been faltering lately as well as the nouveaux rich clubs like City and Chelscum I don't think it's a surprise we've capitalized. Especially not with our style of play.

I originally followed the Bundesligia and did kind of adopt Spurs as my English team due to Keller and Ziege (please don't laugh), after moving back from Germany my Deutsch got worse and worse where I ended up following Spurs more just due to it being easier to find info that I could read. In 2006ish my love of the club really took off as I found streaming options to watch the games every week and not just hope Spurs were on Fox Soccer Channel.

I live out here in Colorado. Born & raised in North London though, & my old man still lives near Tottenham in Crouch End.
Over the years I've run into a few Spurs fans (and had a few mates follow us due to affiliation).

The most popular teams are the ones you'd imagine. People ask me if I support Man U etc all the time.
Spurs are definitely getting more popular, but in order to really get noticed, you need to be in the later rounds of the Zchampions League. I know a lot of people that won't really watch the Premier League, but do follow, watch, and show interest in the CL.

To gain popularity here, we need to try and hold onto Bale and push on for a CL spot year-on-year.

Think the NBC stuff being so Spurs centric, and heavily featuring Bale is a big factor in this. Especially going forward.

Bale is essentially being billed as the league's MVP. And we as a club a team that likes to play well and close to glory again. That's a pretty attractive proposition.

Plus when we seem to be used on the adverts more than any other cub by some distance, I can see why it's happening. Right now don't think it's got anything to do with Dempsey.
