Spursking, is that you?  just kidding - that's not a bad call really, but untested in the prem and no sign that he can speak English... other than that, could be worth a punt but do we really want to shell out on someone who could go either way?

guess it can't hurt right now, huh?

I'd still like to have seen the club asking if someone like Pirlo would fancy playing in the UK - it can't be long now before he reaches that age where he starts doing the old "i think i've achieved all i can at Milan, i would like to try my luck abroad and yada yada..." knowing that his last three or four years at the top level will be comfortably paid for.

we can afford it.

Problem with bringing in anyone without Prem experience is they will need time to adapt, and we havent got time.

If we brought him in then maybe Decemeber time he will be up and running at 100%, which may be too late

While Appiah is a decent and spirited midfielder I am not sure bringing in another player right now is the answer. We will need to bring in a few players in January but I think only a Striker or two and a DM leader type. They may well be hard to find.

The only answer right now is to try and get the team to understand their roles in the team and work hard on forging an understanding with each other. It is difficult to produce any type of free flowing attacking football and not look so disjointed when the players can't really figure out what they are supposed to be doing.

Take Woodgate as a prime example. He has to lead the defence and try to develop a defensive style that suits our side (of course under instruction from Ramos and the coaches). The problem is against Wigan we had a backline of Gunter Corluka Woodgate BAE, they kept a clean sheet and Woodgate must have been thinking we can build on this. The next game his new centre back partner was shifted out to right back and Daws came in. Then a half fit Ledley came in for Europe and Bale switched in for BAE, then finally he had Corluka back as his partner, but with Gunter and Bale (instead of BAE). Even though we have been defending alright it is difficult to get positioning and learn the trends of your own team let alone trying to stop the opposition. If our full backs are going forward and we are playing a highline we need to have a clear understanding of who is moving where and when, who is covering and who will move forward. But that has been almost impossible so far.

The midfield is an even worse situation because it isn't like they are just switching players and trying to excecute a system like the defence seems to be doing. In the midfield the formation and philosophy seems to shift almost every game. A flat 4, a flat 5, 3 in the middle and two advanced wing forwards. Different players playing each role, differing balances of creativity and drive. If the team is playing well, the ability to switch formations or play in different styles can be an advantage, but when the players are still getting to know each other, they need to build on an identity. How can we possibly be creative if one game we have players making particular types of moves and the next they are operating an entirely different system? How can someone like Modric who has great vision and good feet switch from deep midfield to the left, to an attacking central role. It is impossible, the types of pass are different, the movement surrounding him is entirely different and his attacking and defensive responsibilities are different.

It isn't really a suprise that our forwards look like fish out of water with all that going on behind them. The isolation at times is scary, but it is something that needs to be worked on to try and find the right balance and then make sure the players are drilled hard enough to know exactly what they need to do in the system and stick with it until it has a chance of working. In my opinion that is the answer, rather than just throwing in another option into an already confused bunch.

It's like groundhog day all over again. He's a box-to-box midfielder, something we have lots of already. His fitness is also suspect.
