Am I alone in thinking that I'd be quite happy with Barton?

u lot really wouldn't mind barton? hes absolute shyte. I'd question my love for the sport if we signed him, seriously.

I'd probably question your use of your eyes too. Barton is not in any way shyte and was their player of the year last year. He made that team tick; and considering it's Newcastle, that's pretty impressive.

Seriously, watch some more football before you wade in with ridiculous opinions.

I would be worried about him, not the footballing aspects but the... potentially criminal ones.

That said, Diarra forcing through sales from Chelsea and Arsenal (the second time to join freaking Portsmouth) doesn't exactly point towards a calm and balanced footballer.

Barton covers two positions aswell and we need competition for Lennon.

Who knows...

I always used Barton as an example when I said we could do with a proper **** in the team. Now I just rely on the crowd being the 12th man. Position filled.

Everyone questioning my statement of 'he's a winner' - why exactly are you basing that on the number of trophies won?

A 'winner' is someone who wants to win matches, and will always fight to do so. He's 100% committed to the cause of his team and will do anything (usually too much) to win.

You gormless mugs quoting me with rofl signs and calling me out on what exactly has he won can stick it - I was talking about his attitude, which anyone with half a brain could see.

People can change you know...

don't know why people get so upset about a certain player at a club anymore, like it makes any difference, gone are the days where a club and its players were part of a community and drank down the pub with the fans.

footballs are so detached from reality it makes no difference who pays their wages.

if you want a community feeling and a 'its our club and our players' go support a Blue Squad premier side.... even then you'd struggle.

Calm down Bobbins. Take heed from Barton. When everyone is against you rise above it...don't start throwing out abuse and upsetting the authorities

On the note about Barton being a winner though, did I see a stat somewhere saying that they didn't win a single game without him in the team last season?

Of course they can and Barton has been pretty well behaved since his daft double footed tackle helped get them relegated a couple of years ago.

The one thing that worries me is this situation with Newcastle. What has actually happened? For them to be happy to release him surely it was more than just a few misplaced twitter comments?

I like barton. I remember when inside sport did an in depth length interview with him and he came across as a very inteligent guy.

He also says the right things about the england international team by slagging off lampard gerrard and barry. This is a guy who knows what it means to play with pride. My impression is that the guy is real and not a mercenary like most of todays footballers.

That said he appears incapable of holding his temper or shutting his mouth at the slightest critisism. Step forward Harry as the perfect man manager! Really good footballer too. Whe we beat newcastle last year at the lane the crowd was giving him such a hard time (ok admittedly he didnt have his best game) but his work rate was astonishing.

Yep sorry about that, a bad day at work boiling over stupidly.

That was my thought. He's a winner, if nothing else. And fortunately, he is something else - quite a decent footballer, too.

I'd have him probably in place of both Jenas and Huddlestone.

Winners generally win things, whereas Barton has as many trophies as Mabbutt has vaginas.

Barton is an ASBO with a pair of football boots, if he signs i will stop watching all football until he fucks off back to the coal mines.

I play and watch plenty of football mate. Don't worry about that.

How is Barton good? He was crap at City and they fired him and the only club that would have had him were Ham, Newcastle and possibly Boro. Pick of the bunch eh?

So he had one good season at Newcastle, one of the only club who were insane enough to welcome him in and what does he do? Leaves them.

I don't want to even discuss his character, as that's a different story. From a purely footballing perspective , he is average at best and DEFINITELY not worthy of a even a bench position in any of the top 5 clubs - so what makes you think he's worthy at Spurs?

You tell me what attributes make him good then? His pace? sublime passing? scout-like vision? tackling? Ha. You're insane mate.

Joey Barton is crap. Mark my words. He has no business in any top tier clubs.

The pitch is the green thing. You may have noticed all of the other people around you that were looking in the opposite direction.

It should be of interest that even if you think he only had "one good season", you'll note that it was the one just finished. So heaven forbid we get a player who is coming into form, has a bit of grrrrr about him, knows the English game and doesn't cost the Earth to bring here.

Did you want Gallas last year?

lol....did you watch Newcastle last season? By far their best player and Barton is a very talented footballer, there is no doubt about that.

Sure he's had a whole host of problems regarding his character and attitude, but there are signs that he is overcoming these issues.

Infact I would go as far as saying he could get even better if nurtured properly.

I would seriously consider signing Barton, particularly that we are talking about a free here.

I totally agree with you, he is a winner because he cares about winning and it shows when he's on the pitch. He also has the ability to really affect games and he battles like fuck.

Personally I like him - as a football player anyway.

Redknapp will want it as Willie Mackay will give him some more racehorses if it happens.

Levy will veto it though, like he did with Bowyer and Bellamy.
