If Berby's gonna leave it needs to be sooner rather than later, to give Jaunde more time to get in the players he needs to play the system he wants to play.

Certainly fits the bill but we have to beat Arry to punch if we want him. I am not sure he is going to like being told that we only want him if Berba goes.

A fat pay cheque will sort that out :)

I'd sooner saw off my limbs with a cutting device fashioned from discarded traffic cones and some goats cheese than see Alves in a Spurs shirt.

haha!! Alves was used as an example of recruiting from the perceived lower leagues on reputation and potential. Agreed, Alves is a poor man's Mido.

Be prepared.

And I think we should be prepared for the worst case scenario. The theft of "The crown Jewels".

The thought of starting the season next year with Bent and Keane up front sends me into a blind panic and cannot be allowed to happen.

All I hope is that DC was a boy scout (or what ever the French version is) and has a backup plan in place.

Chelsea are sniffing round Villa and Bent Arry is trying to woo crouch back to the south coast whilst we appear to be crossing our fingers and hoping for the best.

Also Levy needs to be throwing the kitchen sink at Berba to ensure he stays as well as proving the clubs ambitions by getting in a real quality DM and RW.

If Berba leaves we will need someone who is able to hold the ball up as well chip in with their fair share. A striker like that, i am sure you all agree, is hard to come by.

There is a finite supply of real striking talent out there and we need to be sure we dont get caught out ala Carrick.

Not being funny but I personally believe that if bebatov was to go we would survive.

He has been doing alot of what an attacking midfielder should be doing, ie being a play maker.

If bebatov goes we would have to invest in a "proper" midfield. It is my belief that our not having one is the main reason for our defensive frailities and lack of support and attacking ideas (Berbatov excepted).

Sort out our midlfield (IMO the ones we have are not good enough in my opinion as none of them would walk into the top 4's midfield) and we will do well with or without Berbatov.

Good post.

But changing our whole style of play may lead to ANOTHER slow start to the season.

As I've said I think Berba will stay (2+2 years, don't need cash, ManUSA won't pay up, etc.)...

However, if it does happen, the other thing that worries me (apart from the blindingly obvious) is that we'll get held to ransom when we try to buy players with the proceeds. Everyone will know we're flush with cash and hold out for joke prices. It will be like Chelski buying Drogba and Essien. Both selling clubs just held out until Chelski paid up.

We can be prepared all we like - the prices will still be painful.

Ig BErbs goes, I reckon someone like Crouch or Kitson is more likely than Villa or any other 'big name'

maybe a continental equivalent of the above 2

I think we'll try to keep the spending down on the '3rd' striker - having already got Bent Keane and Pekhart

and spend some more on other areas

I really like Crouch... he'sgot a great touch, and is a lot better than most people realise with the ball at his feet. a great replacement in my humble opinion! :)

Yeah, we'd be down to two strikers who are easily capable of 15+ league goals a season each. That's an absolutely terrifying prospect.

You just have your blind panic. Everyone with a grain of common sense will treat the prospect with equanimity.

Caspar Milquetoasts. Dontcha just love it?
