Yes he was an early consideration, whether he turned down the approach, or simply said he did after it didn't go anywhere is impossible to deduce. Agents like to name-drop, and use half truths to curry favour.

Whatever the truth, as I said, he was never offered the Liverpool job.
How do you know this?

Thanks for finding that. It is still a worry that he didn't take the cups seriously, considering they had no pressure in the league.

I agree but cups seem to not be as relevant abroad, if he does come here hopefully he learn from the criticism he received putting out a weaker team when he didn't need to

Hopefully. He certainly won't get away with that here. I disagree with cups not being as relevent abroad though. The Copa Del Rey is much more highly respected in Spain than the FA Cup is here.

I don't. So I guess you don't know that FDB wasn't offered the Liverpool job.

It's not the case that all things posited have equal weight simply because they're not disprovable. If you want to say something is so then you have to back it up with evidence, if it's not then we don't accept it until you do, otherwise anyone can say anything - such as, I'm actually a sloth with a laptop - and you'd just have to accept that it's equally likely that I am as it is that I'm not. In the case of FDB being offered the Liverpool job, show me anywhere where it says he was.

He should know, I believe he won it twice as a player with Espanyol!

It was a concern. It did happen in the middle of all the boardroom issues so maybe he got distracted. Although when combined with him calling the EL bad news for smaller clubs it does make you wonder.

Regardless I'm sure it's something that would be discussed in the interview

The last season has certainly brought our expectations down a level. A lot of us just ant a content man in charge that plays football the right way and respects the players and club. Wherever we finish from there next year is a bonus.

As you are saying "he was never offered the Liverpool job", so, as you stated in your post, back it up with evidence.

I'm not saying he was or wasn't. We will probably never know.

I'll back that up if you can prove I was never offered the Liverpool job! The status quo is a thing didn't happen, and if you want to say it did then you have to show that it did, otherwise it didn't!

Agreed.

No point in it even being in the discussion as we don't know it happened. So whoever is using it in their argument is doing so with no foundation.

Or introduced a degree of reality?

But pool, and man u in times gone by, have proven that a talented squad playing good football is the way to success. Perhaps us fans have realised that we want success but we want to do it in style?

I think we all accept that they made initial enquiries, as they did with several candidates, some we know of, perhaps others we don't... it's a huge leap from that to say he was offered the job, and there's absolutely zero evidence to say he was.

Don't dispute that. hence my post !

She's an heiress with no interest in football and she inherited Southampton when her father died last year. The reports at the time was she wanted to cash in on the club, and this fundamental difference in ambitions caused the rift and eventual departure of Cortese. Since then I think she's realised that any quick attempt to cash in will see the club lose value and so there's been a change in direction. Poch stayed with the club during the uncertainty, kept his council and now they are where they are. Clearly they want to keep him, the question is how prepared they are to show him there's a project there.

I know about the family (Markus & Katherina Liebherr) and what happened and read the stories. That "change in direction" saw Katharina Liebherr invest something like 65m. Very brave of him to stick with them through this "uncertainty" after they had rescued him from the dole.
