How come?

think he's proven more on the european stage. has a really competitive side who play the football i like(counter-attacking) but with the technical ability to back it up. has beaten spurs and chelsea in the past couple of years, just advanced past red bull despite going down to 10 men whereas fdb's ajax got schooled 6-1. fdb sounds good because he's young and has the acronym thing going on, not really sure what he's done as manager of ajax to gain so many fawning fans.

Yet De Boer has beaten City and Barcelona in the CL and beat United in the Europa. As for Ajax this season, I would say they have alot of potential but they don't have any great players at the moment like they did in the past.

Basel hardly have any stars, closest thing would be Stocker. Ajax beat City when they had that disastrous European pedigree and couldn't win a game to save their life in the Champions League, and they beat an already qualified Barcelona. Also don't think United were exactly committed to the Europa League, much like when they lost to Bilbao. Not saying FDB is bad of course but I think Yakin is better, and has proven himself at all levels (bottom half side, Europe challenging side, historically dominant side) in a very open league, whereas FDB has only had the best side in the Eredivisie.

The other thing is De Boer's brand of football is remarkably similar to AVB, not sure most people realize that.

In theory I guess you could say its similar but in reality it is very different

The ajax team in Europe is one of the best sides I have seen to be honest. The team does play with some truly great movement and unlike AVB's side was very fluid. The whole team minus the DM and CB's were switching positions and it was great to watch. Also the amount of work the team did of the ball they pressed hard and that back line wasn't alway exposed as a result.

De Boer is my third choice but if he can get us playing like that I would be ecstatic.

Interesting. His Basel team completely collapsed against Valencia in the 2nd leg despite completely outplaying them the first leg - to be fair, so did Sevilla who went on to win it, and Basel went down to 9 men in extra time and still almost got a winner. They lost in the cup final vs Zurich but were very unlucky. Won the league losing only twice.

What is really remarkable about the season they've had is they've lost a couple key players and has absolutely TERRIBLE injury problems all year (made ours look like nothing), and of course in the Swiss league the squads aren't quite as deep, so you really have to make sure to factor that into consideration when looking at what he's done.

Again though, another successful season. He's done well everywhere he's been.

In the gamble stakes, he is a bigger risk than Pochettino and De Boer.
But I must admit I did consider him because the football Basel played in the Europa league was particularlly good. Would love him to bring Stocker with him.

He would be a good left field appointment, I can't see it happening though.

Stocker looks almost certain to go to Hertha Berlin and for only like 4.5M too, what a bargain. I'd like Schar if we're looking at Basel players. Also, Sommer would be a good Lloris replacement if the worst were to happen. Like I said though, the squad isn't actually particularly great.

Sommer's already signed for Gladbach to replace ter Stegen.

I've not watched enough to know how good he is. All I've seen are his EL games against us and Chelsea, where he's done very well. His team pressed well and attacked quickly, which was good. If he's a got ability and willing to bring Schar along then I wouldn't mind a punt on him.

I really hope we give this man a formal interview (though tbf I hope we give formal interviews to the likes of FDB, Mancini etc any possible candidate) He's done exceptionally well considering the horrific injury problems Basel have suffered. He's proved himself a tactically clever manager favoring either a 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1 formation (which suits the players at our club) which he adapts to give certain players more creative freedom, which has done wonders for the likes of Salah and Stocker, he has also overseen the development of the likes of promising talents such as Dragovic, Schar and Sommer. He's capable of challenging European heavyweights, beating the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, ourselves and Bayern Munich. At 39 years old I'm sure he'd be in no rush to leave us after 4-5 seasons and Baldini has spent a lot of last season watching FC Basel so this maybe a relationship worth exploring.

Ah yeah, I forgot the transfer ban had been lifted from Barcelona. For a while it looked like he might end up not going as Ter Stegen's move to Barca might have been off. But yeah, he's going to Gladbach.

The more I think about Yakin though, the more I think this one should be given really serious consideration.

Please no! Has got to be one of the most boring coaches I have seen in Basel.
He has been dismissed, even though he has won two championships on the trott and a contract until the end of 2014-15. Says it all really ... Basel fans are glad to see him go.

Basel are champions in a poor league, winning only 72 points from a possible 108.
Only lost two games, winning 19, but drawing 15 league games.

Tells u what kind of football was on offer this season really.
Don't be fooled by a couple of great performances on the European stage.

For me its a BIG massive NOOOOOOOOOO! :stop:
