If Jimmy doesn't play into his early 40s, I’d be shocked. He genuinely gets better with age ffs.
The longevity of Jimmy is amazing, to consistently perform how he has all these years and actually get better is unreal, he’s a complete freak.
Eighteen years of test cricket is phenomenal, okay he was in and out of the red ball team for the best part of four years but to come back from that after the stress fracture of his back, the constant remodelling of his action and old Bob (rest his soul!) saying he couldn’t see him being around long is astounding.
England’s best bowler of the last decade by a country mile and probably our best ever, totally irreplaceable!

So; changes for the next match, starting Saturday?

Buttler is coming home for a break (in -3 degree lockdown), and despite Foakes's reputation having blossomed while he hasn't been playing, that weakens the batting.

Does Woakes or Curran come in for Archer? Broad for Anderson, despite his form today? Moeen for Leach?

Aches and pains permitting I'd be tempted to make Foakes the only change, show faith in the top 6 and in the spinners, and keep my fingers crossed that no-one runs out Root while he's in single figures.

I'm expecting Moeen and Foakes for Buttler and Bess/Leach as the only changes. As much as it's great to have a superior gloveman (Buttler actually kept pretty well in this Test), it's a bit of a hospital pass to a guy that hasn't played a Test in 2 years, or any form of competitive cricket for not far off 6 months. It'll be Foakes at 7 and Moeen at 8 I think, just to bolster the 30 runs that Buttler would likely get ( :sneaky: ).

They will want Jimmy to be absolutely 100% for the pink ball test so depending on how he is feeling he could sit this next one out for Broad.

So to which of Leach or Bess are you sending the message that they're second of two?

Which one's the day / night one? 3rd Test?

If it was me I would leave as is, but I'm second guessing what they might do as they seem hell bent on getting Moeen back in. And I would assume if they do that they will keep Leach just for left arm/right arm combination.

I think it is the 3rd one that is the pinky.

Jimmy hinted that he was knackered after play today. think he’ll be rested up for the day/night game.

My guess is Broad for Jimmy and Foakes for Buttler as the only changes. Unless they India produce a real turner to get back into the series, in which case I wouldn’t be surprised if they bowl Stokes more and replace Jimmy with Moeen to have 3 spinners.

I'd love to see a confident Moeen back in, but I think they can only justify it on rotation and 'resting' and I can't see the need for that in this Test. We'll see, I guess!

Anyone seen a highlight video of Anderson's over or todays play yet? I can't find one.

There are highlights on All 4 (should be able to get it through Freeview on your TV too). https://www.channel4.com/programmes/cricket-india-v-england (y)

Unbelievable win, did pretty much everything right. Anderson is incredible and just keeps on getting better - don't blame him for getting frustrated whenever a journalist brings his age up! Though I think it would be understandable if Broad came in for the second test to keep Jimmy fresh for the day-nighter.
