ok im am very confused as to why on these forums he gets sooo much criticism. for me it went like this. jan 08 came for big fee from rangers and for half a season looked like a world beater and was very immpressive. summer of 08 got a bad injury ruled him out for a few months. we then signed corluka originally as a CB but we was then pushed to RB in the absence of hutton and to the sale of chimbo. he (corluka)was ok at the beggining but in october hutton was rushed back put in a couple of bad perforemences and was out again for 5 months. redknapp came in and corluka was fantastic and our 1st choice RB. end of 0809 hutton came back again but this time played very well and put in a few immpressive displays and i remember a poll at the end of the year a hottley contested debate on this forum aeguing who should be our 1st choince RB Hutton or corluka with hutton getting alot of support but don't remember who won. however since the beggining of the 0910 season he has received a hell of alot of criticism for literally no reason cos i cant think of anything that he's done wrong:shrug:. and now ive heard people describe him as an awful player.IMO if we didn't have corluka i would be more than happy to have him as our 1st choice RB but i understand that e's too good to sit on the bench and may need a move. so can someone help and tell me waht hutton has done wrong to deserve so much criticism?

well i think that he's okay but not that great but probably got stick cuz he beat up his dad. also corluka is better also people think that he impedes naughtons development as well which isnt good cuz people like young english players especially when they were so expensive...

I could go on, I won't. That was very difficult to read.

For me it was like this:

Came in January 08 for a large fee.

Was immediately suspect at the back, but was much more exciting and quick than Chimbonda going forward.

Played excellently in the CC final.

Contributed to a terrible run after the CC final in which I think we won only 3 league games to the end of the season with some woeful defending. This was glossed over by his ability to put a cross in. He failed to strike a partnership with Lennon.

Had an injury.

Came back from injury and looked out of his depth, lost his place to Corluka permanently.

In his few apparences this season, again, he's looked out of his depth.

If you've not seen him do owt wrong, you can't have been watching any of his appearances tbh.

His inability to just mark his man goalside. That, all by itself, is enough to rile me endlessly.

And yes, he's a thug. As I've commented elsewhere, I'm never going to be proud that Alan Hutton is wearing our shirt.

Paragraph breaks FTW! :-|

I'd agree with most of this, except I never thought he was that exciting going forward as his technique doesn't look all that.

see this is exactley what i mean. hutton suspect at the back? i mean what is this based on cos i don't think this is the case. i think people are just basing this on when he was rushed back in october and shouldn't have played. at the end of last season he didn't look suspect at all. and even when he has played this season he's been good. but i accept corluka is a better player but hutton doesn't deserve 1/2 the crticism he gets.

Spot on but missed out the bit in bold that I've added.

I feel the opposite to you, I really can't fathom what some people see in him at all, some even reckon he was the best right back in the league when he first joined, which I find hysterical.

What are you basing your opinion of him being good at the back on?

He hasn't though, his marking of his man is poor. Particularly when there are crosses coming in from the other side, he doesn't tuck in and get close to his CBs. Sometimes he is positionally all over the place. Doesn't help when you are getting compared to Corluka who has such great awareness and positioning, a natural defender despite his lack of pace.

1) He's rubbish.

2) He's a knob.

I could go into great detail on both of those, but id just be repeating the what's been written before me. Ultimately, those two points are the crux of the issue for me, and had point number 2) be different, i might be willing to give him a bit more time-as it's seemingly true, i want him gone.

I think he's been pretty average this season actually. Quick and strong, but doesn't beat a defender like clichy or cashly, this is because he seems a fairly average dribbler, or perhaps he is just lacking in confidence. He is not that great defensively either he doesn't get tight enough.

I know it's an embarrassment of riches, I actually think he's a pretty good player, but he is just nowhere near Corluka who really is a class right back. Hutton is a decent premiership player, nothing more. He'l be a good buy for the Mackems, anythings an upgrade on Bardsley...

Really good player - one of the best RBs in the league when he's fit (though obviously not as good as Corluka).

He pisses all over the Kyles though and I hope he has a chance to prove himself now he seems injury free at last.

I bet you a fair few of the ones criticising Hutton are/were the same ones who were doing the same of Kaboul, I wonder who is having the last laugh there now.....

Simyid, i am in your camp on this one. i remember a certain BAE getting the same abuse. any player will be crap when played in a bit part role. given game time he will prove himself at another club sadly.

Vedran Corluka is our first choice right-back, and rightly so, but this is purely a result of Aaron Lennon becoming the player he is. Lennon is one of our main offensive threats, and Corluka simply compliments him better than Hutton, who himself is perfect for the more reserved right-midfielder who will tuck in and provide bite (ala Steven Davis, Teemu Tainio). Corluka will happily support Lennon, releasing him early and letting him get on with what he does best. Alan Hutton will allow his right-midfielder to tuck in and crowd the midfield, while offering his team the same width a winger like Lennon provides. We know from experience that Hutton and Lennon together is a case of 'too many chefs', but I truely believe that Hutton would be a massive player for a team like Everton or Birmingham. I really hope that, if he is moved on, he stays down South to prove how good he is.

Sense finally being spoken by a few. Give players game time and watch them step up to the plate, chop and change them and they will make mistakes...

Hutton is yet another great player at Spurs not reaching his potential because of attitude and injury curse.

and a run in the side. We could add Dos Santos, Bale, Naughton, Pav and a quite a few who have left our club to that list.

p.s. Before people start slagging off Pav saying he had his chance last season, I'll simplt reply that BAE was'nt pulling up many trees in his first season was he....
