He can't play central midfield in a 442. Look at what he does when Redknapp puts him out on the wing. If he went walk about like that in central midfield teams would slice right through us. Think about it.

i'm with JS on this - when you see VDV in the midfield 4 he spends the whole match going mising from his given position and it causes us huge defensive headaches as we get over run in the spaces he leaves - he also runs around so aimlessly that he is knackered after an hour:hump:

agreed - but if we are going to sell him then lets get on with it and give ourselves a chance to replace him

Yep. We have seen more important players than him leave before, and I'm sure we will again.....But we keep going and 1 day (hopefully) we will the league.

Ozil is alot faster then VDV and Alonso gets about the pitch way more then Hudd.

Perfect system if we manage to sign the elusive targetman.

We need to decide if Gomes is still up to the job of being our Number 1 and bring in a quality centre back as playing Gallas and Dawson together concerns me as neither of them have an ounce of pace.

Hopefully VDV will be fit for the 1st time in his life and will help out Huddlestone/Sandro.

If the budget allows, a replacement/serious competition for Lennon would be very welcome.

Has Leandro actually extended yet ?

Nothing official from his club as of yet. Although perhaps our arrangement with them extends to us updating their website as well, in which case it could be a couple of weeks before it goes official.

As has been said, isn't Leandro signing a new contract more likely just to simplify all the 3rd party ownership issues? Inter have been quoted as happy to let him leave, etc (albeit they'd prefer to keep him until December).

As has been posted across from the Leandro thread it seems that Inter will still only own 70% after this deal is signed, with Atletico Ibirama still owning the other 30%.

Hes a useful little fella that brasil_spur....but is it me or is it spelt BraZil...now that doesnt look right...BraSil...BraZil...maybe if I stop putting capitals in the middle.

Ah forget it.

alex3 this is really not the thread to be discussing formations in. However, you must clearly be able to see that our line-up is significantly weaker than Madrid's meaning ours will not be half as effective, out of all those comparisons the only players I would take ahead of the Madrid players in question are Sandro and VDV, and I suspect those choices are down purely to my Spurs bias.

Today seems extremely slow, with very little groundbreaking ITK, I just hope Levy will spring a surprise and gives us all something to smile about sooner rather than later.

your missing the point about why he does that tho, because he isnt a wide midfielder, and has never been in his career. He spents most of his time drifting in the middle (the CM/AM) position because that is where is most comfortable and most effective, not being stuck out on the wing.

If he was to start in the middle he wouldn't need to be going walk about to get involved in them game.

Especially in a 4-3-3 VDV would be devastating for us in CM.

We don't play 433 though we play 442/4411. He could work in a 3 man midfield but not in a 2 man midfield that is my point. I don't think Redknapp is gonna change his formation that dramatically next season.

With Leandro signing a new contract can we all ignore Skyderen going forward? Kjaer aside (obvious friend connection) I don't believe he has a source at all.

Again, its not about the sums of money we spend, but the quality of the player we bring in.
Carroll, Henderson, Milner, Downing, Bent. £35m, £16m, £24m, £18m?, £24m.
Frightening sums of money.
Sandro, VDV, Berbatov, Modric, £6m, £8m, £10.9m, £16m. You dont need to completely break the bank to bring in real quality.

Moutinho for £30m is never going to be a goer for us. And why would we want it.
I feel we need to find a young, hungry player who is perhaps excelling in a poorer league, craving the chance to move to one of the big leagues to prove themselves, ala Modric. Smaller transfer fee, smaller wages, a hunger and desire to succeed.
I know we all crave the headline signing, me as much as anyone else. But we need to shop smart.
Well said my son!!!!

I like that team - playing 22 players - genius!
