LLM had info weeks ago about the Villa deal which only made the press and was proved as correct in the last 4/5 day. There is no way you know whats being done. Give it like 2 more week before Baldini is branded as not up to the job.

At this rate Benteke will be yet another name banded about we won't end up signing for whatever reason. With the Croatians transfer failure news I am in stinking form.

This window has been disappointing so far even with the Paulinho signing, we have more pressing issues with goalscoring and creativity and yet again we seem to be dragging our heels as per fucking usual.

Glad Baldini has got Daniel to finally sort things out...

This is a bit of fun, none of us have any clue what is going on at the club, who we are after, who we aren't and why deals may take longer or not happen at all. Getting all upset about imaginary transfer dealings falling through is close to insanity. Chill out and enjoy the speculation this summer. What will be will be.

I don't give a fuck what other clubs have done and there are a good few who have completed more business than us already tbh. Big failings in the squad and we should have learned by now to get our shit together earlier

We'll see if it goes to deadline day for important positions again, the signs aren't looking too promising at the moment.

I think the plans were to get it done early, but there's no accounting for Villa's about turn or Halilovic's greedy family (if reports are true).

We could hijack the Bony deal for half the price of Benteke, and he's a better player IMO.

He's currently with the Swans squad in Holland, watched their game yesterday and has had photos taken with Huw Jenkins where he's holding up the new shirt.

It would be a highly unlikely miracle to 'hijack' that one.

I have a feeling we will sign Bernard, he has always said he will decide his future after the Copa Libertadores and now he is in the final, we will have to wait till the 25th august to see what gives. There would be no point in chasing him now as he has said he wants to concentrate on the tournament and doing so would just annoy him.

I think we are still in for him but haven't moved on it for the reason above, I think we will revisit it once the final has been decided. I reckon the club are getting a bit more desperate to give AVB someone he wants and of the players we know he wanted I think Bernard is the only one left that is still attainable so think we will go all out to get him (I hope anyway).

I just cant see Porto going for him at the price quoted.

As our striker hunt continues, I have a feeling we will be once again revisiting Damiao if the attempt to sign Benteke fails.

I wouldn't be upset to see that. I would in fact be very happy to see that, just how probable it is, is another thing entirely.

I agreed with up until the point where you have us signing a top striker too. I think if we get Bernard we will use Ade as our main striker; I wouldn't have too many qualms with that.

No creativity? We created the second most chances in the league last year and have added a midfielder to the squad. No goals from the side? Bale might disagree with that. No striker? No new striker but we still have 2 .

I dont get attitudes like this. You have the same amount of insider knowledge as the vast majority on here. Which is the princely sum of f**k all. How do you know that we're dragging our heels? All we've done so far is sign a brazilian international, and been turned down by Villa in favour of him staying in his home country. Which lets be honest, was the easy option for him. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and im not having a go, but nothing positive ever comes out of your mouth. What would it take for you to be a happy chap? That is of course, if you're not just a WUM.

Yeah there's been a few of us who've had the same treatment but it's not worth getting bothered over. He has his opinion, as does everybody else, it's just that most people don't base their opinion upon a personal vendetta against our owner/chairman.

EDIT: I think it's best if we all opt to ignore his rantings? A&C had a bad enough day yesterday, so clogging up the thread with moaning about Paolo's consistent swiping & negativity is only going to result in this section being closed down again.

He did really well by the end of last season and with a full pre-season behind him could replicate his first season with us. One of the biggest reasons for him not playing as he should've been was his lack of fitness and also because he was forced to move way down the pitch to pick up the ball all the time. If that was because of the whole team's lack of creativity, AVB's tactics or his own accord I don't know but it hardly did any wonders for his game last season. I wouldn't mind if we saw Benteke, Soldado or Negredo enter our side but for me Bernard or Eriksen is a bigger priority.

We created the second most chances in the league with no one pulling the strings in midfield and maybe if we had a better strikeforce than we do we might have scored more of those chances. On that we have one who is patchy at best and one who looks like he couldn't give a fuck, we've also been missing a striker for a long time now.

Re: Bale (in a free role btw). We can't expect him to carry us every season and he'll be off sharpish if we can't improve the squad enough to get into the CL, which I believe we've already failed to do a couple of times when we should. We also need more from the other 'winger', Lennon doesn't contribute anywhere near enough.

"It's only 3 weeks" eh? We'll see I suppose.

Rather radical I know but the way I see it we have three new first teamers already for next season (Pauline, Sandro and Kaboul). those three will significantly strengthen our team IMO.

Even if Ade stays we still need another striker. 4-3-3 doesn't suit Defoe at all, and he'll want regular 1st team football anyway. Ade as 1st choice and a younger backup that can play in a 4-3-3 would be adequate. However Ade and Defoe as our only strikers (again) would be a huge disappointment.

I'd say in terms of improving the squad a full Brazilian international who won 3rd best player at the Confederations cup is a pretty good start...
