Well not good that we are losing a quality player. But it was fairly inevitable. And getting it done now, rather than the 31st gives us time to spend the money.

Yeah, but I've got to be honest I hope we don't give the majority over to Porto for Moutinho. Personally hope sahin is still on or even Dembele for a fraction of the price and then use the funds to add to the front three positions. We definitely need strikers but we also need another wide forward who can chip in with goals but also has some guile and a decent final ball. Have a feeling though that AVB can't see past Moutinho.

I appreciate what u are saying but we still haven't spent the palacios, crouch and Pav money. What makes people think that getting the money in for modric will lead us to spending it?

It just hasn't be ENICs way over the last two years.

True enough, but selling a player of Modrics importance and value must surely be more complicated than you're everyday transfer, especially since we're looking at quite a few replacements who are all complicated as well (Dembele - apparent interest from Real, Moutinho - notoriously difficult in dealing with Porto + his price tag, M'Vila - Scum interested, will he go to a non-CL team etc), and adding to that the amount of money we (hopefully) get from Real, which obviously would allow us to spend more liberally than we could without it (but then again, Spurs selling players doesn't mean the money will be spent, as you yourself pointed out).

Luka has been the big transfer for Spurs this summer and I feel, based mostly on media outlets reporting the Luka transfer being the hold up and that ever so trustworthy gut feeling, that as soon as he's sold players will be brought in. I guess some deals are already in the pipeline waiting to happen at the right moment so we won't get screwed over by Real or the team selling us our shiny new CM.

I feel relieved and optimistic...but also sort of sad, because, traitorous little gimp he may be, he's probably going to be the best player I ever see play live at the Lane.

All subjective, of course, but for me; Hoddle, Waddle, Gascoigne, Ginola and Berbatov were better footballers. Modric is superb though, I agree, and we will miss him more than any of the names I mentioned. He will be a HUGE loss for us, and one I don't believe we can realistically replace.

I hope you are right dude. I for one expected the modric transfer to drag on to the last days of the window so hopefully now we will spend the cash and get in a replacement......plus the gk, back up winger and 2 strikers of course!!!

Great news on Modric from the point of view that it isn't going to deadline day.

My first thought too (well not literally my first thought...I dread to think what that would have been).

The more time we have to replace him, the better.

It's starting to dawn on me how much of a transitional season this will be. Enjoyable (I hope) with some cup success (I want Wafa cup) but I'm starting to think top 4 will be an amazing achievement.

Pottles info about agreeing with Madrid on Modders ties in nicely with all that LOC stuff earlier that went straight over my head....hopefully things are moving forward....

It'll be cash only IMO, as I think POTL would have mentioned if we were getting a player in exchange.

The replacement? Quite possibly Moutinho, for the release clause fee. Optimistic? Perhaps. But if that's who AVB wants, then that's who he should get. Maybe.

I have to admit, I've read the last 350 or so pages, and we've got some bloody funny fuckers on here. Genuinely laughed out loud at so many replies.

Which isn't what I should be doing in an ITK thread. Sort it out.

I much prefer a giggle than feeling suicidal.
It's out of our hands so we might aswell try and enjoy it and see what comes.

Moutinho - notoriously difficult in dealing with Porto + his price tag

Did AVB leave Porto on good terms? I'd hope he would make a huge difference in this deal. Obviously Porto aren't going to let him go on the cheap, but if Moutinho is eager to play for AVB again it could make negotiations much easier.

I thought us arranging a LOC would be to prove to another club we were solvent/able to stump up the cash. Wouldn't have thought it would have been solely dependant on Luka's departure?
