If we had to keep one of ADE or DEFOE who would you keep?

For me it's obvious, if we play 433 like AVB wants then our CFWD must be able to play on his own through the middle... Soldado can do this, ADE can do this, jermaine cannot however. Jermaine is only effective if he plays as part of a front two something AVB is not looking to do. For me if one goes it has to be jermaine

I'd keep JD, hes a natural goal scorer and has a much better attitude than Ade. Maybe he could be converted to play one of the wider roles. He's good at cutting in and scoring.

If Ade goes imperative to get another striker in - we haven't had any ITK on any of recent though ?

It's weird, isn't it? I thought we'd get links to young strikers, rather than in-their-prime ones but...nothing.

So either we're really going to give Harry Kane a good go this season, we're hanging out waiting for for our bi-annual attempt to land Damiao on dead line day or...we're not really sure? (Or, mouthwateringly, we're actually keeping our cards close to iur chests in order to get deals done).

Minor point (for us, not for him!) regarding Bale.

With us, Bale has joint commercial image rights.

Real Madrid are extremely firm on having exclusivity with Bale.

This makes a big difference monetarily for Gareth. He'd need a major wage hike to make up for it financially, particularly if we increase his salary also.

I wasn't going to mention this before but i've been told RM have offered Bale 190k after tax and 30% image rights. I have no idea how image rights work. Does that mean Bale earns 30% of all image rights or he owes RM 30% of all image rights.

Thats the reason for me for maybe wanting to keep him over Ade. Ade is the better player by far. Can do much more in the system we want to play. However, I cannot see Ade as an impact sub, whereas Defoe, if we need a goal in the last 20 mins, he is probably the better option to bring off the bench

The problem is that when Soldado isn't fit we are left with Defoe trying to lead the line.

Rons current deal with RM gives them 40% of his image rights, the apparant new deal gives them a lot less.
Their current policy with their players is a 50 50 split,so it's interesting that they want exclusivity regarding bale.Perhaps this a change in policy,or just special circumstances, as with Ronaldo.
Ta muchly. Top infoing.

Yep. Ade is a talented footballer but his attitude is questionable at best and now Soldado is here he doesn't seem to be the type that would be determined to fight for his place. He doesn't justify his £100k ish wage if he's going to be a squad player that would offer little from the bench. Defoe on the other hand, as proven in 11/12 was a very effective impact sub, and has a much better attitude. He could be useful in games where we might need a bit of energy to lift us or a tactical change with 2 up top. As for Ade replacements Damiao would be my choice, with Traore from Anzhi being a cheaper option. It's going to be difficult to shift him though.

Not to derail the thread, but didn't someone dig up a stat last week that said he hadn't scored any goals from off the bench or maybe just three the whole time he's been with us?

Depends how it's been phrased, but from what I've heard I'd say more likely he gets 30%

Compare that to the 80%+ he gets now (with deals like the 2.5m Lucazade deal in the mix)

PS: the whole lucazade thing is 4m or something (reported). 2.5m is about what he gets from it.

I think he's got better at this since AVB came in. He's also started looking for passes more rather than just shooting.

He has got better, but that doesn't mean he is up to standard, he still is an awful decision maker and shoots far too often. His size and the major plus points of his game just do not marry up with how we play, so unfortunately he leaves us in a really bad position when he starts upfront on his own.

The problem is I can't see us moving for anyone other than Leandro, if Ade was to leave.

Sorry that wasn't clear, I meant that Dembele was brought to FULHAM as a striker, not to us. He moved back to midfield quite early on for Fulham and then continued there for us, though he has arguably dropped even further deep for us, to that deep-lying playmaker position. I would imagine that now we're playing 4-3-3 he will be used slightly further forward.
Yeah, I think Martin Jol (right?) deserved a lot of credit for Moussas transformation.

Anyone who shows any real interest in scoring a goal would just about do it.

I think our selection process should involve putting the proposed striker in an empty field and handing him a Banjo, then introduce a cow (could even add further assistance by painting the cow arse bright red!) and then asking the player to hit it.

Would have stopped us signing most of what has come though our door recently.

Said that a while ago, they did exactly the same with Beckham which, for him, wasn't so bad as his brand was already established.

From a purely commercial point of view, Bale is really better off with us as the PL has a significantly wider audience for his brand to exploit.

And from a purely footballing point of view, he's totally better of with us as I think the pressure at RM will ruin him. I don't think he has a clue what he'd be letting himself in for in this respect.
