Not that I put that much store in it, but this ITK silence is a bit worrying.

Of course, i'm probably wrong, (I usually am) But if this was 'done' it would have been announced already IMO. I don't think we're into 'tactical delays'

And thinking about it, if there were some sort of minor hitch, surely it would have been resolved by now?

Don't get to excited and you won't be reaching for the rope if it all goes tits up.

Everyone expected us to sign Joe Cole last year didn't they? IIRC the ITK's announced it along with several mainstream media outlets. It'll be interesting seeing how this one pans out.

Yeah my only bit of ITK, and that was from his family (including his dad who's also his agent) Liverpool came in last second with a £6m signing on fee.
Until they are in the shirt anything can happen. But where are POTL and the rest, you say it's done, but it isn't, why not?

I think there is something to be said for the idea that an announcment would weaken our position in terms of trying to get rid of Crouch and/or Pav?

It is also not likely that 2 different negotiation processes would go belly up in a major way without us hearing anything?

Fully agree, I think we aren't in any rush to announce it for those very reasons, also may weaken our hand if we are trying to sell one or two of our current strikers if we have announced Adebayor. Also we have had countless postive ITK reports on the signing inc ValYid saying it was pretty much done.

I second the sit back and stay calm approach.
But what about getting them fit and integrating with the team ....neither of them have had a pre season, and they will need at least o week of intensive training to get to any level of fitness.
From my point of view the sooner we get them in the better

Got to agree with Mil1. There's no way the Adebayor deal is just Man City's way of stringing us along so we miss out on other targets. They may be super rich, but they still need to abide by the fair play regs, and they can't afford to get a rep for treating players like dirt by sticking internationals in the reserves for half the season.

Even the bit where he says that Liverpool finished above us? Amateur hour!

Didn't he say that City finished above us even though we beat Arsenal and Liverpool away so they wouldn't wait to see how we do against United to judge whether we're too large a threat to give us Adebayor.

Knowing what a kind and sensitive soul you are, I do hope that you are not starting to break bad news by drip feed, in order to avoid a mass suicide on SC.

Totally agree with you . The only thing I would add is a line in the Daily Mail today regarding Diarra where they said that we are still £2 MILLION off the asking price ?It was in small print about 3 pages from the back.

It was always going to be a complicated deal with City paying a % of his wage. I'm not in the least bit surprised it's dragging on tbh. The last time we dealt with City we signed, didn't sign and signed again Corluka. I htink City have several high powers involved in these deals and there seems to be a few instances of miscommunication with them.

I think it will be done but will drag on a bit longer. Both clubs have gone too long into the deal for it not to conclude. They need him out of their 25, he wants to join, we want him, too many things in our favour to not sign him. So when it all falls through remember how convincing I was.

Until THFC deem to fill us in on any details, hypothesise is about all we can do really.

About the only scenario that actually makes sense to me is the Inter asking us to keep it quiet one. If it's in the interests of keeping the relationship with them sweet then fair enough.
I don't, however, see how keeping it from our strikers helps our situation though. Personally, I'd use it as the Carrot for them. "Each one of you guys is on probation. The one who performs best is the one that stays.' That way you get the absolute best out of all of them and, even if you've alreadydecided who stays, the others are in the shop window. The better they perform, the more in demand they'll be and the better the price we get for them.

I dunno mate, I just get the feeling that we've walked away from this deal. If the last reports are to be believed, I think 18 million is probably a bridge farther than Levy is prepared to go for a relative unknown, particularly when he got Sandro for 8 million.

One thing is for sure, we'll know for definite in January!

:eek:mg: I typed an explanation and then lost it

In brief...assumptions:
Only need 3 strikers, with VDV.
Adebayor and one other this window.
Leandro in January.
= two of Crouch/Defoe/Pav sold this Summer. Announcing Leandro now for January would mean that even Pav. would ba able to work out that it didn't matter how he performed, he was toast.

A lot of assumptions, I know...but that is what I was basing the hypothesis on.

Don't mean to be curt...just can't be bothered to re-type the whole post

Diarra is dragging along because of the clause he has in his contract which is accountable to Portsmouth, they have to work out whether Portsmouth are entitled to any money because he had a "percentage of profit from next sale" clause in his contract and no one really knows the amount they have paid Pompey yet and whether they've made a profit with our reported fee of 10 mil. It's all about of a shambles really.

These deals may seem fine in theory, but the practice seems to result in chaos.
This was never more evident that with the Begovic farrago.

Wasn't the hold up meant to be because the FA weren't happy with some of the paperwork? Even if we've straightened everything out with City now the FA wouldn't rubber stamp it until Monday would they?

Perhaps its a profit or loss clause on his next move?

As RM have made a £10m loss on Diarra Portsmouth may have to pay a % of that loss.

Just as they were getting on their feet as well.

No chance they would have a loss clause

Journo said that Madrid didn't pay anywhere near the reported fee for Diarra.
