I find posts like weird considering we signed plenty of first team players the previous two summers before this.
It's funny because we finished 6th and 7th too. Yet before that we had windows where everyone was complaining about the lack of improvement and we finished top 4 back to back seasons. In fact I don't think there was a single window under Poch that was particularly impressive yet we had our most success in the pl era. Poch just developed the young talent throughout the squad. I'm happy with the amount of young talent we have for Nuno to work with. I think its our best avenue for success.

I always enjoy reading the transfer window post mortem thread. It seems to be 11 days early this year though.

It's just anxiety, I'm personally still hopeful but people are getting anxious and showing it because typically most transfers come with a certain level of media smoke and it the links to prominent targets are either looking like they've gone cold and new ones are not appearing so as much as I'm sure most would like to keep their emotions in check and wait for deadline day that fear is starting to boil over which I understand.

It's why I don't agree with those slating negative posts, I'm not seeing people being negative for the sake of being negative, I'm seeing peoples emotions boil over into frustration because they're worried that Spurs aren't going to have a squad for the manager to at least try and compete this season for those champions league spots which whether people like it or not is imperative because we've seen this season how being outside limits our options to greatly improve the team. It's clear to me that 99.9% of the "negative" posts aren't looking to be proven right but because they want what's best for spurs and I can understand that even if I don't agree with them.

I must admit I'm slightly concerned by the lack of news coming forward in regards to outgoings and improving a few areas or new first 11 targets emerging however this summer is extremely unique, I trust the info that agents expect a lot of loan deals and movement in the final week and we'll see what transpires. If nothing happens I'll be disappointed as I thought we were in a position to accelerate our rebuild but tbh I'll just be happy seeing Nuno turn our team into a team that fights for every inch and making the team greater than the sum of it's parts.

Yeah but it's that we have been constantly told things such as....

"Good news coming", "we have money to spend", "ins not reliant on outs", "5/6 ins", "bargains to be had", "we will still sign players if we don't sell Kane" etc...

Ali g, came out at the start of the window and said that we have to shift players to buy. I think if we weren't fed all this stuff through the window most (normal) fans would have expected this and tempered their expectations.

We knew it was going to be difficult to shift players and we knew we weren't as an attractive proposition as we were.

Early on, Fabio did well, and I don't doubt that he is good at his job, but we can't ship the overpaid players. Just annoys me all the 'positivity'.

Maybe people shouldn't come in the ITK thread if they can't handle it when things don't pan out as we're told. I've got no doubt the guys passing on the info are doing so in good faith. It's pretty ungrateful to moan about things not happening.

City are the only team arrogant enough to play to our strengths. That's why we do them every year. Perform well tomorrow and I'll agree with you.

Nuno's wolves always did extremely well against the top teams but they struggled against everyone else.

They finished seventh twice. They hardly struggled against everyone. Last year wasn't great for them, but the horrendous injury to their star man didn't help.

Back to the ITK, personally I'd take Traore as I can't think of a better game changer from the bench. Too often we bring on players and you don't even notice we've changed something.

Yep, I’m obviously exaggerating to make a point. That’s fair, and I don’t expect everyone on this site to agree with that point. Looks like a fair few do though.
There is no such thing as "obvious exaggeration" in the transfer forum! ?

I get why people are frustrated but don’t get the ‘we now have no chance of Top 4’ argument. We have a very small chance no matter how much spend.
Disagree with this. Last season despite lackluster performances under JM we only missed out on top 4 by5 points. When you consider we gave up 22 points from winning positions just keeping a third of those would have seen us comfortably 4th. Going on last weeks performance it’s obvious we are much better drilled, fitter and more committed than we were last season. If Romero does improve the defense, Kane stays and we get in some more additions especially in midfield I see no reason why we can’t compete for top 4. Far too much pessimism on here today. There’s still 10 days of the transfer window left and there’s only been one game of the season played. Every season has its twists and turns. Players people have great expectations for fail to make an impression while dark horses emerge as heroes. Some perspective is needed.

The window isn’t even open yet
The players are all on holiday/at some tournament
It’s only July
There’s still 3 weeks to go
Still 11 days to go
The last week is where all the deals will happen
Deadline Day will be big for us
The manager was happy with the squad

It’s the same thing. Every. Single. Year

LoL

it literally isn’t

we signed our record signing in Ndombele in July 2019 six weeks before the season started

Lo Celso and Sessengon were signed in august before the season that same window

last year most folks were happy we addressed the DM issue with PEH, while shifting KWP and bringing In experienced competition for Aurier in the form of Doherty

we signed a top notch young LB in Reguillon and bought in Bale and cover for Kane in the form of Vinicius

I understand people’s frustration but let’s at least gets the fact straight

That supposes Liverpool, Man City, Man U or Chelsea have a season like Liverpool did last year.

I think that the margins are a lot finer than many on here seem to believe. I also think that players are only one part of the equation.

Last year we were awful, literally awful. We did everything that you would say that we shouldn't! Yet we were top for a few weeks, got to a final and in the end only missed the top 4 by 5 points! If we'd held on to just 2 of the leads we had we would be playing champions league football this season!

So when we say that a back 4 of aurier, Dier, sanchez and reggie just isn't good enough to challenge, we are clearly wrong because the facts tell us otherwise.

In Poch's first season, on paper our team was nowhere near good enough, yet we improved and overperformed. He continued that trend year after year until we became one of the most feared teams in Europe. He did that by finding the right system for the squad, it gave players confidence and this improved them. They performed greater than the sum of their parts. An unknown young striker became the best in the league. A youngster from league 2 became the hottest property in Europe. An enigmatic but inconsistent midfielder became virtually unplayable. The list goes on.

However, we came up short because at the very top, the margins are fine and that is where squad depth and player quality comes in.

My point is this, to compete for the top 4 we need very little adding to our squad as the players we have are good enough. We will need the right manager, the right system and a fair amount of good fortune. But we can certainly challenge.

To go further, that is when we will need to add the right players at the right time.

So for me, the window has been ok, not great but ok. We've got a good defender, we've got a very tricky winger, decent backup goalkeeper and we've got one of the best forwards in the world to sign a new deal. On top of that we still have the best striker in the world. We also seem to be moving on a couple of promising youngsters. A reinvigorated Dele is like a new signing as well. So it's not all doom and gloom with 10 or do days to go until the window closes.

I would rather keep kane and try to get a few more late deals done than lose kane and have to replace him in such a short period of time.

That was the summer the window was different. So they were signed on deadline day.

Doesn't really bode too well if Nuno wants someone who he's worked with previously and knows all about, that I'd imagine is attainable and not silly money, but is overruled. Hopefully it means we're after bigger fish who he'll be happy with but not a great sign IMO

I wouldn’t be against Traore. He may have his faults technically but a new manager may be able to get the best out of him.

Oh wait…
