Like nailing Tomiyasu down, he looks like good cover and competition for Tanganga at RB and a good coverage across CBs, potentially most comfortable of the CBs on the ball.

still work to do in midfield

I figured Tomiyasu only comes in if we get rid of Aurier
Surely with only a year left on his contract we'll be willing to let go of Aurier for a very modest fee. He's erratic and has some mistakes in him but he's a perfectly decent player overall. He'll be a relative bargain in this window with clubs unable to spend much and he wants out of the club. Surely Fabio will find someone to take him.

Here is my take on all of this. Traore would give us 4 very different wing dribblers to feed balls in to Harry Kane. Son, Moura, Bergwijn and Traore. If they can all learn from each other, take the best of each other, they will all be better. Moura, when not pushed off the ball or making poor decisions as to when to take guys on, is unbelievable taking the ball off the toes of opponents, running infield and then shooting or passing wildly. Bergwijn, great pace, vision, dribbling skills, but is also easily pushed off the ball, makes poor decisions and lashes too often at the ball when shooting. Son, pace, dribbling, shot, passing, but poor decisions and poor defensive positioning weakens his game. Traore, great defensively, awesome strength and dribbling ability. Good passer of the ball but he is let down by his cross and shot.

Here's what I would say. Four players to play alongside Kane and in front of Dele (and whomever takes over for Tanguy). All can act as striker. Ideally, we get another striker. If not, ready made solution. Coaching and nurturing by Nuno could go along way to make all of these guys, butter. We don't need night and day. Most of it is decision making. Traore, always trying to get the shot or cross off immediately when he has time. Bergwijn needs to speed up his decision making. He is always trying to make the perfect shot because he waited too long. Son, shoots when he should pass and passes when he should shoot. Moura, when shooting or passing, always has more time than he thinks. For all four, it is a matter of degree. Son and Moura are 29. IMO, they still have upside. Bergwijn 23 and Traore 25. Not even in their primes. Sessegnon, who is another completely different player is 21, but still capable. Gil, I see more as a Dele sub, but what a dribbler.

What we want from our wingers is to beat players 1 v 1 or to draw two players to them so they can release someone else. Use the channels, throw in the crosses and get the opposition on cards as early in the game as possible. Personally, I would have started Traore on the other side. Reguilon and Dier would have been no match for his strength and pace. Even still, Tanganga, Sanchez, Skipp and Hojberg all had issues. Why he did not keep running at them, I do not know. Seemed to run out of ideas in the second half and did very little when switched to the other side.

Personally, I think Traore makes us formidable at wing for the next 3-5 years. Not that there aren't other players. I am very confident in the ability of Nuno to get more out of these guys and believe they all have more to give.

Imagine Traore being able to cross and shoot better. Unplayable.

They should spread easily across the pitch and anchor the attack then ????

Still underwelmed about Traore , all this chat about Nuno can improve his end product, well how long were they together at Wolves?

I see Traore being the next Arron Lennon, plenty of pace and trickery but then no end product.

Also we have just bought Gil and have both Moura and Bergwijn so do we really need 4 wide players

When did being the next Lennon become an insult? Lennon was a fantastic player who was universally loved by fans.

Yeah, we could really do with some midfield options.

Pray that someone comes in for Sissoko and Ndombele ??

He’s just said those are the ones he is confident in. Doesn’t mean we are not looking at other areas.

Outs always important though. Been a bit shit on those so far.

Yup, and it's not just us either. Was out with a United Fan last night complaining of exactly the same thing.

seems that all these silly wages make it hard to sell your players when no one has any money.

Aaron Lennon spent a decade at Spurs during a major upward shift in our trajectory. Spurs pre and post 2005, the Big Martin Jol era, is like two different clubs. Perennial underachievers with occasional flirts with relegation transformed to upwardly mobile top 6 material, and eventually better than that. Lennon played a full part in that, terrorising defences and being unplayable at times. And a bloody good watch too.

If this is the outlook for signing Traore, snap the boy up.

And Lennon improved dramatically with his crosses toward the end of his career with Spurs. I’m baffled that so many don’t think a player can improve on a technical skill like crossing. I don’t know if Traore will improve but it’s certainly possible and with more proficient finishers on the end of them, those crosses would be more successful anyway.

If that’s the case, we should move heaven and earth to sign him. You’ve obviously forgotten how important Lennon was to our development and shift of the club from mediocrity to contender. He was often worth the entrance fee alone.

id be okay with adama, sarr & tomiyasu ..IF, and its a big IF we get that creative midfielder! seeing as sarr is going straight back out, i cant imagine we're paying much if any out for him - but again, there isnt really anything out there linking us to creative mfs is there? less than a week to go, LOTS to do, cant see it personally, but ill still be here waiting for it...

Lennon was never that good. Struggled to get into the England side with any consistency and make an impact and was never wanted by any top clubs in the country throughout his whole career. We were his level which just wasn’t top tier. I liked him as a player but he’s not a reference to use in terms of top class wide players.

We should be aiming better than wingers with no end product.

Traore, I’ll get behind him but again I feel he’s a couple of levels below top tier. Our rivals sign attackers with end product and it seems we again are shopping a couple of levels below.

This one will be all on Nuno if it doesn’t work out.

The latest ITK is meh. It’s not enough to make us competitors IMO

If, as latest ITK suggests, our window will see us bring in:

  • Gollini
  • Tomiyasu
  • Romero
  • Sarr (loan back)
  • Traore
  • Gil
  • Skipp (return from loan)
  • Sessegnon (return from loan)
... and importantly - keep Kane - then that is a decent window and a major first step to refreshing the squad.

It's a question I keep asking myself, and I never get to hear any coherent answers. Surely, he's a quality centre back who can play equally well at right back, so he sounds to me like the perfect 'oven ready' replacement of Doherty and Aurier. I know Fabio is renowned for keeping loads of 'possibles' on the go at the same time and just goes for the best ones when he thinks the time is right, but if we don't watch out, we're going to lose out on him.
He's getting so very close to spelling Tomiyasu correctly. What will happen first - we sign him, or D1 gets it right? Exciting week ahead!
Or maybe he is correct and we're not signing Tomiyasu, we're signing Tomasu for Japans Div 4 conference league lol. Great little player. Electric ;)

My main concern for this window is the outgoings - moving on those players who don't have a future with the club.

I think the incomings are important too, but the impression I get (and I'm happy to be corrected) is that there's a feeling among us that the rebuild has to be completed this window and if we don't refresh the squad fully by 1st September, the club will have failed. We've been 'in transition' for so long now that the phrase may have lost all meaning, but this season truly is a transition season for us and I think expecting the rebuild to be completed by the end of the month may be an unrealistic expectation.

Get a couple of new players in, and get rid of the Gallic Three (as I think of them) and that would be a good beginning. We'll then be able to plan ahead for the next couple of windows to complete the rebuild as well as giving Nuno the time needed to imprint his approach on the squad.

I think that's an underwhelming window. Skipp isn't good enough (yet), Sessegnon has shown absolutely nothing, Gollini is a sub, Traore is Bergwijn on steroids. Only Romero (hopefully) improves the starting 11.
