If, as latest ITK suggests, our window will see us bring in:

  • Gollini
  • Tomiyasu
  • Romero
  • Sarr (loan back)
  • Traore
  • Gil
  • Skipp (return from loan)
  • Sessegnon (return from loan)
... and importantly - keep Kane - then that is a decent window and a major first step to refreshing the squad.

You're doing the PR team's job for them by including Skipp & Sessegnon as incomings. That would be a pretty underwhelming window with no back up striker and no strengthening of central midfield (in terms of new players), arguably our biggest weaknesses.

There's plenty of Traore = Roidy Lennon chat in the Traore thread, so it's probably best to head there.

Some might say he's Lennon with muscles. :cautious:

Lennon was never that good. Struggled to get into the England side with any consistency and make an impact and was never wanted by any top clubs in the country throughout his whole career. We were his level which just wasn’t top tier. I liked him as a player but he’s not a reference to use in terms of top class wide players.

Tbf, Lennon played in two World Cups and had 21 caps (same as Ledley), provided 6 assists.

We should take it to the squad building thread, but I personally think with Højbjerg and Skipp, and improved coaching / system, we are much, much stronger in CM than we were last season when Winks and Sissoko featured regularly.

If, as ITK suggests, we get 6 new players (exc. loan returnees) then I think that is a great first phase of the squad refresh in very difficult circumstances (Covid impacted transfer market). Looking forward to more updates today.

While I´m ok with the incomings, I don´t see a lot of creativity in the squad, assuming NDombele is either off or won´t feature all that often for apparently obvious reasons. Not sure where the sparkle is supposed to be coming from atm, it´s very workhorse

Getting rid of Winks should strengthen our midfield ;)

So all hopes of getting a Striker in have disappeared? I was really hoping the ‘1 in regardless, 2 if Kane goes’ ITK came to fruition this window.

I think that's an underwhelming window. Skipp isn't good enough (yet), Sessegnon has shown absolutely nothing, Gollini is a sub, Traore is Bergwijn on steroids. Only Romero (hopefully) improves the starting 11.

Agree i'd say underwhelming also, albeit probably in line with (my) expectations given that outgoings have been next to none.

Romero being the clear no1 in terms of most important, but Tomiyasu and Traore being the next two most important on that list and they arent even done yet, if they dont make the deadline it becomes a very short list...

It was mentioned that they prefer Traore to another striker, which implies Kane/Son/Scarlett options (in that order).

I expect because a) Son is actually, statistically and otherwise, much better than available options out there, and b) The continent is demanding luxury prices for bargain strikers.

I imagine the expectation was made when Vlahovic/Martinez were touted at ~£50m, not twice that.

Whilst that freshens the squad with some younger legs and high potential, I agree with others here, it is definitely a first team ready CM and stylistically suitable backup CF short of being a good window.
As we’ve been told all summer, outgoings could be key to getting the extras, plus hopefully the expected downshift in prices as teams get desperate to bring in cash on the continent.

We should be aiming better than wingers with no end product.

Traore, I’ll get behind him but again I feel he’s a couple of levels below top tier. Our rivals sign attackers with end product and it seems we again are shopping a couple of levels below.

This one will be all on Nuno if it doesn’t work out.

The latest ITK is meh. It’s not enough to make us competitors IMO

Lennon should have been in the England team for a period (WC 2006) when Beckham was poor but was undroppable because of his goldenboy profile.

I think you forgot the most important signing so far- Son signing a new deal was/is massive for us going forward

Perhaps that money is now going towards Traore instead? I.e. if Vlahovic/Martinez (who seemingly were our only striker targets) have become much more expensive than initially envisaged.

Not good enough really. We should be aiming higher and really shouldnt be including players coming back from loan.

We need a couple of CM's and a back up striker. Son being used as a striker is a cheap alternative and shocking for a team that has so-called aspirations for the Champions League.
