Taken from the 'Squad in/outs' thread but we are looking scarily threadbare in the centre back department if Daws does end up leaving as expected.

We'll only have three senior CB's with one of them being the (quite) old and injury prone Gallas and one brand new to the prem (Verts) who may take some time to settle

CENTRE BACK
Younes Kaboul
William Gallas
Jan Vertonghen £9.5mil
Steven Caulker
Sebastien Bassong £5.5m
Bongani Khumalo LOAN
Ledley King retired :notworthy::cry:
Ryan Nelsen released
Michael Dawson (potentially not yet confirmed)

Desperately hoping that we've got a couple of defensive signings up our sleeves that the ITK's haven't deemed exciting enough to share?

Just to clarify I have been told hopefully two paraded on Saturday in addition to Ade. With regards to the New forward I am led to believe we have a number of hot irons in the fire and if Leandro offer not accepted we are in the position to close one of the others very quickly e.g. within 48 hours.

Four centre backs is more than enough. We've been bloated in that position for the last few years because of King's situation. Livermore or Sandro can drop in there if we really needed, and I remember Walker making some impressive appearances there pre season a couple of years ago.

Every other club has 4 players for this position. We no longer have King, so four should now be enough.

I also reckon the coaching team may also want to see if his ankle can stand a solid season of playing before deciding his future.
Not even necessarily playing. Maybe they think that if Hudd's ankle can survive the training sessions at Stoke RFC, then it'll survive anything any other EPL team can throw at it. Just think: all those scrums, mauls and line-outs. Good test of those ankle ligaments.

We're used to needing lots of centre backs because of the lack of stability we've had (King/Woodgate in particular). In normal circumstances, 4 is enough, and 5 really is plenty.

Guess I'm still mentally scared from all our injury worries with CB's in the past

Cheers mate - 'meltdown' quality that you alluded to previously? I knew you wouldn't be able to resist coming in here and clarifying!

Cheers (no names needed)

Ever since I made this avatar of Dr Evil Levy I can't stop picturing him in a conference call with the West Ham board being asked for a price for the triple sale of Bentley, Jenas and Dawson.....

How much do you want for the 3 Mr Levy?.....

(not sure how ITK this is though, could be and most likely is accurate though....maybe JJ can confirm)

I've played there, pitch was heavy...not good for ankles... ;)

Wow, loving all this positive ITK at the moment (although a little sad at the possibility of Dawson leaving)

Seeing who we still have and who we've been linked to, I get the feeling that AVB is trying to do what Mourinho did at Chelsea and have two quality players for each position

Please let what Ben's heard be true, I'm totally pissed off with the modric saga now and just want it concluded so that the club can move on

As for the defensive situation, i believe that Kaboul, Verts, Gallas and Caulker is enough for us, but if we have lots of injuries, we would still have Grant Hall (i believe we signed him from Brighton) if we got really desporate. Also as stated above Sandro and Livermore can both play CB if required. :)

What happened to all the anti-Levy sentiments we had on Friday? Is the board in a manic phase today?

I get the impression he ll be ringing his mum crying ,all his teeth kicked out,one eye missing with a pair of cauliflower ears...and a big hole ripped out of that fantastic Afro I was becoming fond of, and that's just from the initiation ceremony;)
