We're buying de Ligt for £69 million innit.
Hang on a sec, but to me it sounds like if all this come to pass, our squad which needs strengthening actually becomes a lot lighter in personnel?
Am I wrong in thinking from Herc’s info that we aim to get 4 in but release 6 to balance this? Doesnt this leave us a bit short, squad wise to be challenging on all fronts?
Is that like bitcoin? We're buying de Ligt for £69 million innit.
I'd rather we spent that kind of money on Bale or Martial who are proven at the top level (Bale more so), rather than another young defender with potential when we already have a couple of them.
Secondly and importantly, why do people care so much about what we spend on players? I would get if we were portly run but we are in fantastic financial shape so let Levy and those who have to control our spending worry about what we spend on players ffs. If we feel that De Ligt is the right player for us I don’t care if we 70p or £70 million providing we get our target
That sort of sum is a drop in the ocean for city, for us not so much. They can go out and splash 60 on de Ligt, 70 on Mahrez and still have money left over for who eve shines at the World Cup. And their recruitment hasn’t been infallible. If we are going to spend large sums of money we need to invest it into players who will take us forward now, not hopefully in a few years. Buying any 18 year old and expecting them to develop into a world class star is a gamble regardless if your Poch or Begiristain. A 24 year old and a 27 year old not so much. Those two would also be able to take us up a level immediately and there is a lot less risk. As you say Toby lost his place to Sanchez due to injury and then I would assume contract issues, the only reason we are looking at de Ligt is because he is leaving. Again, as I said, that’s an awful lot of money to be spending on a third choice CD. Could he become world class, sure, was he ratted higher then Sanchez a year ago when they were at Ajax, sort of but not quite as significantly as people are now suggesting, but should he be our number one financial priority at this moment of time... I’m not so sure. The market has gone mad since Neymar and VVD but, as I previously said, we need to be savvy about how we spend it and I for one would rather spend a larger fee on a CM as that is the most glaringly obvious weakness in our team. But as Trix has said, we won’t be paying 70 mil on a CD so hopefully he is right. If, if we pay £70m for a player it is because we believe that is the current market value for him. Players are worth what someone will pay for them. Will he take us to the next level, well considering he's considered the better prospect of Sanchez and himself, whilst Toby (considered the best CB in the league by most in 16/17 & 15/16) was displaced by Sanchez and was unable to get his place back (although contracts may have been part of the reason), Griezmann is 27, Dybala 24 the kid is just 18 and Man City are happy to beat us on whatever we bid. Do you think that Pochettino can't see the class of a fellow CB or Guardiola can't spot talent?
Me, after the success of Sanchez, added to the fact we have DL (who for all his faults, certainly couldn't be described as a benevolent leader) if we spend big, so be it
What?*
*runs out of thread screaming like Chris Rock in The Fifth Element
Im fairly sure we had ITK a while back, think from Herc, saying Tah was our other defensive option. I’m sure he wouldn’t be that much in comparison.Fact is no club will pay £70 Millon for De Light.
Although I think he will go to man city and we will end up with Lascelles or Evans

Here's why spending 70m on a player matters.
We are not City/PSG/United who can spunk the best part of a billion on rehashing the squad, safe in the knowledge that any hole will be plugged by oil revenues or chinese shirt sales.
We are a financially sound club run for the long term and for profit. Levy/Lewis aren't gonna suddenly turn around and say "right that's the stadium built, sod the last 20years of budgeting and the 500m debt, lets start chucking money around like an oil baron", they'll keep doing it the way they've always done.
As such, while a figure for net outlay may not be etched in stone you can be damn sure Levy has a rough idea of what it wont under any circumstances be going over, be that 50m or 150m.
Say it's the former, and he's estimating he'll recoup 100m from player sales, leaving us with 150m gross, and a request from the manager to bring in 4 players.
If we then blow 70m on one guy it doesn't concern fans like me because of some arbitrary reason like it's a lot of money or it'll affect ticket prices. It does so because it affects the other players we can bring in. This isn't conjecture; this is common sense and to deny it is to misunderstand how a club like Spurs is run.
£70m or £0.70 on one player is the difference between 150m or 80m on the rest, or the difference between a trio including Martial and Savic or one featuring 3 gambles from Ligue 1.
I'm fine with us spending 70m on one player, what matters is what that is in relation to our overall budget. If it's 500m then who cares, spend away. But if it's 150m then fine, spend it, but that player had better be fucking worth it, and in our current situation I'd much rather that be for a key position where we're lacking (CM) instead of one where we already have some of the best cover in the league (CB).
No mate you're wrong, we'd only pay that for De ManYeah, De Heavy is the only player we'd pay £70 million for.
All well and good but will it mean our choice of CM is then compromised?
