I feel like McCarthy is the equivalent of buying a quality new washing machine - it's not an exciting purchase, but it is a sensible one which you know you'll see the benefit of for a long time.

He has the all-round skillset which would make him an excellent fit for us, and he has the PL experience which would likely mean he could slot in and hit the ground running.

I know what you're saying but, with Kramer still an outside option, most of us feel like we're settling for an inferior British make when there's a Bosch potentially available....

With JJs ITK that German deals are difficult (and with the discussion about wages), I wonder if the confidence of offloading Ade's and Lennon's wages prompted this delegation?

If we could buy McCarthy from John Lewis we would get a five year guarantee.

Not sure if I can see a £35-40m outlay on McCarthy and Berahino if i'm honest but i'd love to be pleasantly surprised.

I love the Mccarthy itk. So underrated. Works his arse off and stops other teams creating. Doesn't score but we don't need that we need someone who can't break things down and kick us on. Compliment our forward line which may consist of a German, two English man, a dane and an argentinian. Looking forward to seeing that :hungry:

The TD title holds no significance. It's just a label under which one is hired for specific sills, advices and assistance not yet covered within the club. Especially when it comes to developing the club further. You need a vague and identityless title to employ a person when he/she possesses very specific qualities which are not already covered in, but could be perceived to cross over with existing titles.
"window sills" hurr, hurr :)

I'm excited just thinking about McCarthy. I don't love him but I do respect how he plays his game. He's not flashy but he's effective (which is what we need in the middle).

Also quite excited about the Berahino whispers. If we can get both I'll be very happy. I don't think we need big names from foreign leagues this summer, I think we need a couple solid players that we know can do a job from the first day. No bedding in period, no acclimating to a new league, none of that. Bring them in and give them a run in the squad.

Lamela at the top of his game is very unpredictable. Unfortunately we don't see that side of him too often. Kane was unpredictable at first because he was an unknown quantity but once he started making headlines he was public enemy no. 1 for every one of our opponents. If we can get Berahino in we'll add some more unpredictability to our attack - something that can only help Kane, Eriksen, and Lamela find space.

I'm all in for these two. £15 for McCarthy and £30 for Berahino. Another £10 for Soldado out because even though he was shit I love him and feel for him.

Let's wrap these up Levy, you have my blessing.

If we can get Beharino for £15 (likely with add-ons) then I'd ride wid it. Still like the look of n'jie who is super hungry for it and can be moulded by poch and is a snip, price wise.

Could use the saving on not getting 'rino and pump up our bid for kramer.

Kramer, N'jie, Werner. :hungry:
IIf we are short of cash I can always top up the £15 to say £30 ... sounds like a bargain

If you look historically we rarely buy premier league players on the up and tbh I don't see us starting now. With the money swishing around the pl and most clubs being well run 15m-20mill bids are hardly likely to get the pulses running. We would need to pay over the odds to get jm and sb which we won't do.

Thanks @JJetset for some info to get the thread going.

I wonder whether the Germans are prime targets or not. Kramer, Berahino and Werner is the dream for me but would be very happy with McCarthy and Berahino.

Sure McCarthy wouldn't get twitter or the media going crazy about us but would be as important a signing as we could make right now.

Maybe Schweinsteiger is the start of Germans being interested in the PL. I do understand why they rarely leave though, good league, competitive teams and starting to make decent pay. Plus there seems to be a simple progression for top players to the top team that pay world class wages.

I don't disagree, I know it would be hard. I probably should have added the disclaimer "if we can get them for a fair price."

But I really hope we can find a way. Both are Poch-type players who have an incredible work ethic and are very determined to do the best they can do whether it's a match day or training. They fit the mould. Honestly I'd prefer we overpay for those two if it ensure Poch gets the types of players he really wants.
