I haven't been on here very long and it may be misguided, but i'm going to back what Adie said last night...

What anyone else has been saying sounds like opinion to me or maybe the club putting out duff info to try and keep other clubs from getting the player(s) we want from under our noses.

Adie said that he would be back at 10 o'clock tonight...so hopefully we will more know then.

I was caught up in the excitement last night but in the cold light of the day, I really cannot see us signing Benzema. I do, however, think that it could be part of an elaborate smokescreen.

Mods have frequently stated that the club monitors the forums and we know that journalists do as well. Valencyid also stated (as fact?) that Levy is not above leaking misleading information.

Since Kemsley departed, Levy has successfully reduced the leaks. If the club has been monitoring SC during the last two windows, it can't help but have noticed the itk postings from adiepf. There are very few individuals within the club who would be privé to early moves for a player. From the number of posts and the detail, I would have thought that it would not be difficult for them to have identified adiepf's source within the club. The fact that they haven't plugged the leak, suggests to me that they may be happy for the information to be passed on.

The whole way the Benzema information came out last night was hilarious. The mystery meeting; the suggestion that it involved a player or representative with a name sounding like Jazeeri; and then the link by eager posters to Djaziri, Benzema's agent. I can just imagine Levy and a PR guy thinking this whole scheme up and being amused by drip-feeding the information bit by bit.

Yes, I know I'm a conspiracy-theorist, but the club could just have done it to obscure their true target. Of course the other explanation is that the Benzema information is true.:hump:

All this talk of Benzema is utterly pointless as far as I'm concerned. He was never going to come so it astounds me that some on here assume that he would.

Why?

1) Real have two fit strikers. Yes they've bought in Adebayor but Mourinho had to push and push and push the board for even the loan signing. Why the he'll would he then go and sell/loan half his strikeforce after battling his board so much.

2) He is only just getting a decent run of games for Madrid, pretty much for the first time since they signed him, why would he sacrifice that opportunity to play for another new club?

3) He is almost definitely on £100k+ a week, perhaps even £150k, and we all know Levy, rightfully so, won't shell that out. Ok, if it's a loan they may get it knocked down to £80k BUT Real are hardly in a healthy financial situation so why the he'll would they loan out their first choice striker and pay half his wages for the duration? Even City arn't that stupid.

Don't get me wrong, it will be great if it happens BUT it's just not going to. If you think about it logically, it makes absolutely no sense.

Cue the comments telling me to go fuck myself...

Get the hell out of here, and take your common sense with you...

If we sell Corluka then Modric will be off within 12-18 months imo.

now thats most stupidiest thing i heard on here for many a while.. we all have arguments about players and their abilities but saying one player will leave cos a player of same nationality is leaving is nothing short of been retarded in its thinking and bordering on funny. im sure mr modric and hs wife and new born kid will get over having a buddy to meet up with occasionally and makes plenty of new ones

ITK?

Despite what most people think, he wouldnt be a bad signing.

Can cover both full back positions (imo is a better defender than Hutton) and midfield.

This could mean that it's bye-bye Corluka
sorry this info is from ari gold on spurs odyssey, i messed my post up in all the excitement at the info lol. Backed up by archibald on there now.

To be honest having not taken advantage of securing a striker last summer - further compounded by the failure in this window (if we dont sign one) it doesn't look good.

Many people were right to voice there reservations last summer and now we have 5 days left in this window.

Failing to get that striker over the last 6 months or so could prove a major oversight in the end.

selling Corluka and Kranjcar is risky business as far as Modric is concerned. Both are good enough to be retained as squad players, and its worth doing o just to keep that little croation jewel at WHL.............. or Stratford!!!

This. Charlie is Luka's best mate, if we sold him we would not only be selling our best right back but unsettling Luka in the process

They've both said in numerous interviews that since they were kids they have dreamt of playing for a big European club together.

Tricky situation.

You have made some very good points, but I thought that there are a number of rumours that JM doesn't rate or like Benzema that much and even thought about playing Ramos upfront rather than Benzema.

So it could be that Madrid just want to get rid of him and we seem to be their friends at the moment!

I agree mate - bring lots of girt and leadership too.

But one question on everybody's lips is a...striker.

Thats were the focus is and if that isn't addressed there is going to be a lot of dissappointed yids.

Oh god yeah a striker is definitely the priority...I dont know why or who it is going to be but i think that we will get one in. I really do.

I dont think that DL and Harry are daft enough to let this chance slip by.

Everyone at the club (even Alan Sugar) is saying that we need to move to the next level so they need to prove it by bringing in a top striker

Is'nt there another side to all these points you make though?

1) If Ade is going to be first choice then would they not rather Benzema get regular football elsewhere and then recall him at the end of the season rather than paying for him to warm the bench?

2) Why would he not want to go out on loan and show them what he can do? He might get more of a chance to do that elsewhere than only on their training pitch when he is no longer first choice striker.

3) Levy would try to argue it to the top of our wage structure and Real would be glad to only be paying half his wages for him to keep his fitness up elsewhere.

Two sides to every story my friend. I personally think there is a real chance we could get him but it will take a lot of hard work and convincing on Levy and Harry's part.

That would possibly be the most depressing Monday in my whole life......!

It would be horrible....

Although thinking about it now, after everything that has been said this window, ITK wise, I will just be laughing at the whole thing.

Why would the club put out a smokescreen about a brilliant player and then sign a very good player? Unless our actual target is better than Benzema Eek
