They would let Benzema leave because he really hasn't set the world alight in Madrid despite being talented. His goalscoring record is not great and Mourinho seemingly would rather play no strikers than play Benzema.

This could actually happen but it might take some time. I don't expect anything to be done quickly from here, it is likely to go right to the wire.

Agreed, Benzema has no future at Madrid.

I think the only chance of getting Benzema in will be if Real bring in another forward, which I really hope they do...and fast!

I think they will, but i doubt it is necessary for them given they play 1 up front and Higuain should be back before the end of the season.

This. The only stumbling block I can see in the deal is

a) Benzema's probable high wage demands
b) The club unwilling to give in to them as not to disatisfy our other top earners
c) Benzema is made out to be a bit of a humpty dumpty, so he might not want to join.

Is Benzema the player we need? He certainly does not fit the role I think we need a striker to play with our current format. would we have to play a different way?

Not sure we would have to play a different way at all. Why don't you think he'd fit in alongside VDV / Defoe?

Jenas is not cack. He's a decent premiership footballer, certainly worth much more than £1 bloody million! :-|

A figure of £7m would be about right IMO.

Diarra and Forlan, no way Athletico would be willing to let Aguero go.

Atletico will let Aguero go, but only for silly money, they would be wiser cashing in on Forlan now and then Aguero in the summer, that way they can spend the £65m+ on getting suitable replacements.

If we sell Corluka then Modric will be off within 12-18 months imo.

Doubtful, Modric came before we signed Corluka, i don't think he'll leave us just to join another club that Corluka doesn't play for.

This. Charlie is Luka's best mate, if we sold him we would not only be selling our best right back but unsettling Luka in the process

Jesus wept they're not 5 year old kids, i think they can adapt to playing for different clubs just fine.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Real Madrid bought Suarez, freeing up Benzema for us? They were linked with him a few times over the last few weeks. Don't know if Mourinho is a fan, mind.

Why would the club put out a smokescreen about a brilliant player and then sign a very good player? Unless our actual target is better than Benzema Eek

I can imagine a smokescreen (whether they be real or a figment of our imagination - more than likely the latter) being useful in a hectic, merry-go-round transfer window, but when things are as stagnant as they currently seem, I don't think there would be a need for such tactics. I'd have thought most clubs are pretty much aware what the others are planning, tbh, I can't see us being totally blindfolded as to what Liverpool, Ajax, Madrid etc., are trying to do over the next few days and vice versa.

By now we will have, say, 3 real targets, maybe 1 we are absolutely gunning for and 1 or 2 other very good players, each at varying degrees of negotiations I would imagine. Of those, maybe signing all 3 would be a bonus, 2 would be what we're aiming for and 1 would be essential.

Going on POTL's info, I'd say we'll either hear something about Liverpool and their movements, or ours, by tomorrow night. Suarez will have to be sorted by tonight, realistically, by someone or other, so I think the ITK will start flooding in tomorrow.

People will be too busy today to leak any kind of info unless it's pretty concrete, I reckon. It's real 'neck on the line time' for both sources anonymity and the ITK's reputation, so I think any news will be good news.

Though I can see it now, both Benzema and Suarez signing new deals at Madrid and Ajax tomorrow morning!

I missed the initial agent's name info, but reading back last night it did seem a bit...convenient. Maybe thats because I was reading back after Benzema himself was mentioned. Not knocking Adie, belieive he is passing on in good faith, more just wondering in general how info is passed dow the line.

What constantly worries me about Adie is that between this and last window he has published enough to easily identify himself and his source to anyone that knows them. This renders him open to being spun by interested parties in the same way that Dan Ashcroft seemed to be a couple of years back......

No idea if this is actually happening of course but the risk is there.

Im starting to stick by us not getting a forward in.

Benzema would be brilliant but I cant see it happening and Suarez is definately not coming, Liverpool have clearly made all the moves on this without one mention by anyone of us.

Im worried we will end up with Forlan, who frankly I really dont think would be much of an upgrade on Defoe. Maybe even a backward step.
