I personally think all this talk of needing a big hold up striker is a bit off the mark. We dont play that way. We dont tend to knock the ball into a big mans feet and pick up his lay offs and knock downs. We tend to control possesion, build up from the back and also hit teams on the break. Our Cms are controlling possession in the opposition half and around their penalty area a lot. We need a forward making intelligent runs, showing for the ball in tight spaces and having the skill to turn and do something with it. Crouch offers an alternative and is a good hold up player. He wld be a plan b though and I think Benzema is suited to our style more.

Got to agree with this. All we need is someone who can put the ball in the net. The rest of our play is fine as it is.

jurgenthegerman over on COYS has more or less poured sour cream over our expectations of a striker coming in - as the feeling was that we need to off Keane and/or Pav first, which we still haven't done. I don't know if it was ITK or his general opinion, but he made a new thread about it, so I'm presuming it's what he's been told.

I thought it had been said a few times that Keane's (non) departure would have no impact on us signing a striker?

yup it has, i always take a large pinch of salt when JTG reports. also might be a good thing to play things down, and not F up any otential transfer to us

I think the ITK over on COYS is banking on Benzema not agreeing terms and using that as a springboard to post ITK info IMO

dragon1 on COYS :

Its going to run until the last minute. Two most likeliest buys are playing in same city for different clubs, one a striker one a midfielder, harry has worked with one of them previously
Re mark van bomell harry and coaching staff were undecided due to his age

There is a 100+ page thread on Adie on COYS, but no more action as such, just info he has posted on here.

The general feeling amongst the COYSers is pessimistic about bringing anybody in, let alone Benzema!

Can't say I'm surprised, I lasted about 3 days on there in the summer...the level of negativity was brutal with people demanding Levy's head even before the window shut...I wasn't around long enough to find out if the VDV signing appeased them, but the naysayers certainly seemed to hold sway over there....

The problem is you are expecting him to play the Modric role as that of an attacking midfielder when he has to play it defensive in that position as he is playing alongside modric. I think he did ok against Newcastle but has been very good throughout the season in general.

i expect jenas to be a central midfield player. a proper one who should bring cnetral midfield qaualities and characteristics to the team. he brings nothing both from an attacking side or defensively. his positioning is woeful and every time he seems to play we struggle to put in performance let alone get a win. he should be sold if bid comes in imo. next season when he def wont get any sort of game hsi value will be next to nothing

You can select multiple posts to quote from, rather than using a separate reply box for each individual post.

Pointing to Diarra and Forlan then.

Where does that leave Benzema?
