Will be interesting to see how this goes. History tells you we dont pay wages anywhere near chelsea but if we have indeed raised our wage ceiling and our offer is close to the chavs we would have a chance.youd think if they are losing hazard/cout/willian we look in a better position to challenge and youd think wilf could see that.

Ali Z regarding Chelsea offering better wages:

Not trying to get your hopes up but chelsea are squeezing on wages and have been for a while.
Hopefully good news then. If Poch can work his magic and convince him to come here, that would be fantastic. From one of the ITK's, he's been Poch's targeted signing for years now. COYS

For the first time ever, I will be stunned if he chooses Chelsea over us.

Let's not forget the ITK that his agent apparently loves Poch/Us....I'm sure I remember that being said by Breezer??

Just got to hope Zaha decides soon so if not we can move on. Hopefully Parrish gives him a deadline as they'll no doubt need time to spend the dosh.

Interesting. Wonder how well he knows Victor Moses, as they both came through the youth system at Palace.

Not a fan of Zaha. It's hard to judge the deal without knowing a fee, but I can't imagine it being low.

If it's really a straight choice between us and Chelsea, surely this is where Poch earns his money - so many players have referenced what a great guy he is, and how he helped persuade them to join us in the first place. If we have both had offers accepted, I fully believe he would choose us for that reason.

I'm taking it with a large pinch of salt that we have had a bid accepted though, as it would only be for a club record fee and basically I'm just too pessimistic.

On paper we are far more attractive going forward, sure Chelsea have won trophies more frequently in recent history, but look at what we’re building. Also helps that players thrive under Poch whereas Chelsea have a constant merry go round of managers and have pulled their stadium plans so something isn’t right there.

I can’t imagine we’re that far apart wage wise as we’ve seen our wage structure smashed this window already. If it is literally down to the player now I’m confident we will get our man!

Didn’t we piss him and Palace about though in a previous transfer window? Hope we don’t live to regret that now.

The big plus we have is Poch. Zaha will have been aware of our interest stemming across multiple years all under the same manager = consistency, solidity of situation/safety in knowledge of how the manager perceives him and wants to use him. Compare that to Chelsea who are combustible when it comes to managerial eras, and most likely their interest is only very recent = a situation with far more unknowns and a higher possibility of regime change.

We’d have to hope that that all comes into play.

The main argument in Chelsea’s favour isn’t wages - I’d imagine our package will be very similar to theirs, particularly after bonuses - it’s the fact they’re a trophy-winning machine.

Hopefully our lowball contract offer last year is water under the bridge now. If not i can imagine Chelsea getting the better of us.

Im pretty worried about our CM options if Moussa stays. Dont trust him, Winks and Sissoko as our main Ball-transitioning CMs to be enough this season.

His agent likes Poch apparently. Hopefully that can help sway him our way.

If I was Poch I'd be fucking stuffing his ego with saying that he is the man we need to finally deliver trophies, he is the missing piece and with him joining spurs both he and the club will pick up the accolades that both deserve.

Ali Z regarding Chelsea offering better wages:

To add to this - Our new payscale aligns with theirs now. Top earners on £200k (Kane/Hazard), other key players on £100-120k.

Chelsea missed out on a lot of targets last year and there's all this stuff with Abramovich's visa.

Now Chelsea can probably offer Wilf more signing on fee/loyalty bonus but our weekly offer should be the same. If he picks Chelsea because of their history of trophies then fair enough, or maybe a guaranteed start with Hazard/Willian surely off.

Aside from those 3 things (assuming fee agreed) then the rest is largely in our favour. I'd imagine as a homegrown PL player he'd hold Poch in high esteem, the chance to play in that sexy new stadium, CL football this season, the almighty Harry Kane and other star men (poss except Toby) all staying, we're attractive.
