The rest could go into the signing on fee as well. Torres would most definitely propel us to the next level, Torres and Van Der Vaart. As you say mate, offer Liverpool any 1 of our current 4 strikers.

add keanes wages & we are near 200k a week....hes signed, job done

you have lost it mate :duh:

Come back with something constrcutive perhaps instead of silly smiles.

Do you want this club to improve or not?

We probably won't get Torres but Levy should certainly be looking into it and trying as any ambitious club with a pocket full of loot should be.

One good half of a season.

Tbh if Levy sanctions a bid of around 30 mil. I will think he's gone completely mad.

Or is it just putting faith in his manager? I'm sure Harry would be the one saying that he's worth the money. Levy will not go over his head.

Aren't we seeing exactly this playing out though, Is Crouch a better striker than Luis Suarez, a guy that ever more sounds like was offered to Harry on a plate.

First of all, offered to Harry on a plate? I like adie's info and I'm not knocking him, but he's the only person who has said this and, without doubting him or his source, it is not good sense to base your entire opinion on what practices our club is partaking on the word of one man in an internet forum.

Second of all, Suarez may turn out to be the mutt's nuts, he may equally fall flat on his face, time will tell. I reckon he'll be a success but I equally agree that, if our management didn't feel comfortably staking our kitty on him, they were right not to go for him. We're not awash with the kind of money other clubs are, if we spend that big chunk in one go and it fails, we're not going to get another chance to do so any time soon. They have to spend it on who they actually are convinced is the right man, not on anybody, and it seems that they believe Carroll is the right man.

That doesn't mean he thinks Crouch is better than Suarez. It means he thinks that for the money, he could be wiser with it. Crouch, by the way, cost 7 or 8m, a third of what Suarez cost. Defoe was 12, so half of what Suarez cost. I can't see how you can infer from that that Harry believes them to be superior. They are just already here, and he does not believe Suarez, a centre forward in a 4411 (the system we play), is worth that much more, not to the extent that it justifies that kind of fee.

No one here is saying we don't want to improve, but we're encouraging you to get back to reality. Maybe you need to take a time out and get some fresh air fazza.

no mate they have a duty to progress this club & they are using OUR money....

if we didnt spend it the club would be relegated etc, etc...

they have a duty to progress this club is what i am saying & they are doing it with OUR money

No, it's their money and Levy's duty is to the shareholders, not to the supporters. Often the aspirations of shareholders and supporters coincide, but sometimes not. As a season ticket holder, I would like to see us sign a new striker. As a shareholder, I do not want us to splash £30m on a player who is one assault away from a custodial sentence. Especially if it adversely affects my dividend or the share price.

On a different subject, did you post yesterday that Levy and Eales are off to Spain this weekend? Do you know if this is still happening and if so where in Spain?

wonder how much Torres' supposed imminent departure would affect Suarez' terms negatioation. As much as Suarez isn't the number 9 we need, without Torres Liverpool need him even less.

Doubt whether Liverpool would have agreed to such a condition in a contract.

We are wasting our time Adie, most posters on here don't have the vision like what you and I are suggesting, There stuck in 2008 still pre CL era.

Let them have Carroll. You can take a dehydrated Elephant to a lake but you can't make him drink the water.

glad you're not my accountant, you sound like my misses when she has saved me money based on how much money she saved on buying something

but its right!

we have a wage budget, wether we move people out or not...

we also have a transfer budget of which if papers etc are to be believed we have bid 23m for carrol, we also have to pay his wages do that goes on top...

if keane & defoe go then their wages will be free`d up....simple

work this out then....

weve bid 23m for carroll right?

so we bid 30m plus defoe for torres say...

weve also got rid of keane soooo

80k is our normal budget add keanes wages & defoes wages & we CAN afford him, we could

Might be a bit late Adiepf but i read something on COYS where someone said we went as far as to sound out lawyers for Suarez's work permit application.
So we were really interested.

We should bid for Torres, we can only get rebuffed...

Is that any one of the 4 strikers that aren't good enough for us (one season in the CL) but good enough for Englands most successful club (yes agreed some time ago!) with new owners who what to make the club a force again?

It's nothing new I don't think, but he's not got back to me with anything yet, so it will stay unmoderated for the time being. I'll let you all know as soon as it goes live.

In which case, say you were paying 80k per week, you'd be looking at 13.5 million signing on fee, over say a 4 year deal, to get said persons wages to 150k per week. Thats rough math btw, so couple that in with a 30 million pound player deal, you'd say it is a) a massive gamble b) very very expensive.

I reckon we should sign that Bentley guy. Got a great strike on him, £16m odd ought to do it.

We could probably afford £25-35M for Torres, especially by tossing in a striker, and if rumors are true we have sniffed around a deal like that...but Chelsea are bidding £40M + Sturridge allegedly and Liverpool are likely holding out for a bit more! We're not going to beat Chelsea in a bidding war, and that's without taking wages or Torres' probably unwillingness to come into account.

Not going to happen.

Benzema is probably very unlikely but maybe could happen if Madrid bring in someone else, at least we are able to offer him something - the prospect of being top dog at a very good club instead of a being a squad player at Madrid. Maybe he feels that would be worth taking a wage cut for, maybe not. At least there is a good example: VDV.

So let's say Torres does sign on £200k, then he's being paid over double what players like Bale, Modric, and Van der Vaart are getting. They get upset about this, they demand more money or a transfer. Football simply doesn't work the way you two are suggesting it does.
