so why werent bids like this bein put forward in the summer for andy Carol for example?

I'd hazzard a guess at them wanting to see how he performed in the PL before taking a risk.

There are no problems whatsoever between Harry and Levy...
We will get the right player in...
We are very ambitious...and will still be top 5...we just need someone special to challenge for top 4. IMO, it isn't Suarez...
Lets wait and see what happens with Torres and Chelsea.

maybe Anelka could be available?

definantly don't mind getting carroll , far less of a risk on the pitch than most of the other players being mentioned this window . off the pitch not so sure though .

i'd be gutted if we hav'nt at least enquired about torres if he wants to leave , surely the scousers would be happier selling to us rather than chelski . they need players , offer them a choice of pav , gio , keane or whoever else we have failed to shift , then make up the rest with cash .

An honest question......
What does Fernando Llorente have that Andy Carrol doesnt? To me, same kind of striker. Physical to the point of being a bully, great hold up play, fantastic in the air and score goals.
Real Madrid will pay over £20m for Llorente this summer apparently. If we were buying Llorente we'd all be creaming ourselves.
Carrol is probably better for us as he's English, settled, ready to start firing immediately.
sign him up.

This. Typical Spurs, Top 4 teams are the same for ever and when one drops out City get a sugar daddy!! Torres could start the merry go round?

We wont buy Carroll. Not till the summer anyway and not then if we don't finish top 4. Newcastle are halfway through a good season, heading towards europe rather than relegation. Carroll is a boyhood fan, playing a starring role at the club he loves. Thats not to say he will stay forever but its too soon.

It's a little late to be starting any merry go round's, now.

We should have been the ones starting that particular ride, 3 or 4 weeks ago.

I reckon even if we were interested in him, Llorente himself will be waiting for Real Madrid in the summer to come in for him.

Unfortunately it's a bit chicken and the egg with unproven players - you obviously don't want to take a risk on them before they are capable of playing at the highest level but by then their price has sky rocketed and then your left with fans saying how we should have bought them when we had a chance before they proved themselves.

Everything is better with hindsight and none more so than with transfers.

More time wasted chasing Torres when we could be chasing realistic targets, who is going to pay the £200k a week Torres will be after ? the tooth fairy ?

If we get no one because of chasing Torres then Harry/Levy got a lot of explaining to do

The thought of Europa League matches is enough to make me depressed. However, it occurred to me this morning that being in the Europa League might increase our chances of challenging for the title. That's what I'm going to tell myself anyway.
