IF Gomes stays... we undoubtedly have the best set of keepers in the league. Can't be bad thing can it?

like harry says we could be playing alot of games next year and to keep everyone fit healthy and on form will be some going so big players needed.. he is experienced, im sure will offer reassurance and leadership qualities to dressing room as well.. as for parker i really dont see where people dont want him.. he is an excellenet midfield player and chips in with odd goal too that wilson does not. or jenas. or hara. or bentley!! people tend to look at first 11 and what about sandro. with all eufa games, league cup and league can people honestly expect sandro to play what 50 or 60 games next year and expect the quality of performance like he has been doing. young players need to be brought on not burnt out.. harry has been calling for leadership and personality in dressing room for long time now..and i can see why..

im all for friedel, even more for parker and drogba wud be icing on cake

complete lack of ambition and ability to identify younger players (under 30!!) who can help us into the top four - you see who our competitors for the top four sign this summer then you judge it against our signings - i bet it wont be pretty

i am a fan of harry but he has a reflex action towards geriatrics

I refer you to a post of mine on yesterday's transfer board. This was a change to the transfer plan. Friedel is a way of keeping things steady in goal while still being able to spend the full amount on our outfield signings.

Better than Paul Robinson? Erik The Viking? No. Not for me. Sorry.

His concentration span, handling, decision-making and kicking are awful. Shot stopping is excellent, but goalkeeping isn't all about that.

yes he is & by some way...(imvho)

he makes errors yes but he saves things he has no right to...

he has gained us far more points than he has ever lost us....

people will regret it if he goes...mark my words....

I think he's a solid keeper that our defence will have much more confidence in compared to Gomes. He organises the backline, something Gomes, despite his obvious ability, has never mastered. I don't like the idea of signing a 40 year old, but he is very dependable. I'd like to think we either keep Gomes or sell him and buy a younger keeper as well as Friedel, but I think Friedel is someone I can see us conceding less goals with, even though he's not as good a shot stopper as Gomes.

I disagree, I think its about equal.

There's more chance of Fabiano joining us than Gomes staying I'm afraid.

Agreed. We need to be signing a young prodigy to play alongside Cudicini and Friedel in training and take over from Friedel next year.

So the fact that Liverpool were also in for him doesn't mean anything?

Good signing as long as Gomes stays or is replaced by a younger keeper with massive potential.

If Friedel comes in at No1 we will live to regret it.

completely agree - having just finished fifth every transfer we make should be a significant upgrade to the squad - friedel isnt even better than cudicini let alone good enough to our number one (probably an upgrade on stipe although we will never know!!)

Season before last I would agree. But not the season just finished, he became a liability.

Last season that simply wasn't the case. Even if you take away the clangers (and the soup dragon) he clearly doesn't inspire alot of confidence in our defenders and I doubt the rest of the league hates conceding corners as much as we do.

On his day I agree with you that Gomes is one of the best. But goalkeeper isn't a position where you can afford to have someone who isn't 'on his day' the majority of the time.
