I hope we keep Defoe. Proper servant of the Club and a magnificent impact sub. In that role there is no one better.

I agree Defoe has been a great servant and if he was willing to sit on the bench life would be peachy Problem being Defoe does not see himself as an impact sub sell him come January if hes sounding off.

Am I the only one who'd choose to not sell VDV even if it means we miss out on Moutinho? I'd love to have both, and I know what I want counts for fuck all, but I think losing Modric, King and VDV in one window is too much change for my liking. The replacements could all be awesome but I still think it's being too radical.
VDV is one of my favourite players but personally I think Moutinho is better suited to AVB and his 4-3-3. I think AVB may be concerned about Rafa's injury record and whether he can really play a high tempo pressing game. Moutinho is younger and fitter, plays deeper and slots perfectly into a central 3.

I would love us to keep VDV and sign Moutinho but if I had to choose 1 out of the 2 I would reluctantly go for Moutinho. I just think he is the perfect player for AVB and we need to back the manager with the players he wants. That's where it went wrong for him at Chelsea. I kind of see VDV as our Lampard type (but slim and cool) and i'm sure he would've jumped at the chance to replace Lampard if it were possible. The difference here is he can sell the players he wants and shape this team how he sees fit.

I'm going to support AVB in what he is trying to do here even if it means we lose some icons.

Well if Rafa is off, it will be very sad. I think he was a brilliant addition while he was here. And I'm glad we had the time. I had a Holland jersey with his name back from his HSV days. Love the guy.

But do we give him "legend" status considering we lost King this year, who could define the term? Maybe. I mean we gave it to Ginola for 3 years, but let's be honest.....he's the reason there is so much gay talk on here today ;)
Sorry but there is no way Rafa deserves "legend" status. Love him and will be gutted to see him go but to talk of him as a Spurs "Legend"? I don't think so...

He's had less impact than Klinsman did in his first spell and I use him as the benchmark (as he just about falls into it for me)

Thing is, how would we keep Llorente and Ade happy, i know we can rotate but they both seem like players who would want to start ever game and we only play with one up top. And no, i don't think Ade can play as a wide forward!

This.

I imagine Defoe signing a new contract means we aren't signing a new striker.

And possibly this.

I just don't see the Llorente transfer happening. With Berbatov not going to Juve, I'd have thought that's his most likely destination if he leaves Bilbao at all.

But his value isn't going to fall off a cliff though is it?

Put it this way, if he bangs in the goals for us for the next two years, are you telling me at 29 he wouldn't be commanding a huge fee if the likes of Man City/Chelsea etc come sniffing round?

This isn't a £40-£50million gamble - more like circa £25million which for what we'd be getting is a tremendous investment and boosts our chances of not only Champions League football, but silverware to boot considerably!

Do not see a negative at all.

Of course but it's still a big if. If it was a cert his money would probably be already out

Ok. relying on LevyTime now

We have taken 5 points from a possible 21 pre transfer window closing the past 3 seasons. I hope he makes it all worthwhile the next 24 hours!

I don't see the new contract for Defoe as a sign that we aren't looking to bring in another striker. I don't think we're stupid enough to think that Adebayor and Defoe is a sufficent strikeforce for a top four push. And no, Harry Kane is not good enough to be third choice yet.

If VDV does go then we seriously need to get Moutinho, and even then I wouldn't be entirely happy.

We have the pace and power, we need brains.

Defoe's contract is not really new is it? I see it basically as a one year extension to an existing contract and if Leandro is coming in Jan then we'll get up to 10mil for Defoe in the Jan window from a desperate club, maybe Liverpool.

Modric is unfortunate to never be mentioned as such (on the pitch). 4 years.

Do we actually think we will pay out for BOTH Llorente and Moutinho aswell as Lloris?. i was expecting possibnly Moutinho Lloris and either Remy or Willian. If Levy does indeed deliver the goods of Llorente Lloris and Motinho then he could never ever be doubted again.

This might be opinion and not ITK
BEN on FTL re: Defoe contract:
It's to get more doe means nothing
Which using my Benglish translator I think translates to:
This is so we can get more money when we sell him, it doesn't meant anything

I love the way it's all bubbling along nicely now, building up and up and up, expectation levels will be orgasjizzmic by about 9pm tomorrow night. The mass comedown from the high when realisation kicks in that none of these big names have signed will be something to behold.
