Berahino not first choice?

It was in response to this post, not sure which part:

Understandable. Having our starting 11 intended cm and what will probably be our first rotation CF option arriving only 4-5 before the season is already cutting it very very close though, and will likely cost us in performances and ultimately points, and thus also perhaps money too. Hopefully it will be our new dm + behraino to arrive before the audi cup and then another wf and CF after that, and as soon as possible. Though we seem to be getting rid of dead wood impressively well this season, and DL does deserve some credit for that, we are yet to see just how well and cleverly we are buying vs our intended style of play.

Unrelated to that post, just now:

Ali Z: Think Wermer is the other guy could be Al Ghazi who does he play 4?

Surprised Berahino isn't first choice. If so first choice must have been kept under wraps so far IMO.

Either that, or they've found a way to find a non-english player of equivalent talent for far less equivalent moolah. Which wouldn't be too hard, imo.

Of the players linked only Berahino is the only one you could confidently say would feature regularly in our PL starting lineup.

N'jie and Werner are much more raw than Berahino and would be more of a EL, potential breakthrough option (and likely the secondary forward signing).

Of course you could name one not linked but then that is what suggested in the first place...

Maybe it's Batshuayi who I believe we've had ITK on and theres a longstanding interest.

Just a thought.

Edit: In regards to Berahino not being first choice.

Do we know that with confidence, or is it the familiarity with Berahino that makes you feel that way?

Dier was practically anonymous until he signed, and has made more of an impact on our first 11 than more expensive young PL players (e.g. Caulker), so it's just not quantifiable with certainty, imo.

Possibly not. Alli could well feature massively also which would surprise most. I just saw us looking at one more established player and one potential one.

Anwar El Ghazi from Ajax? He looks very exciting, potentially the next super star out of the Ajax academy. Lots of pace and trickery, would be delighted if we're targeting him.

To be fair no one said anything about a bid, just that he would be a spurs player. Probably agreed terms with his agent.
True, however there was a bit of confusion in here. I wonder if it is a move we are very confident about completing should our first options fail.

We were linked back in January I believe. The only problem is Kishna has just gone to Lazio, so I'm not sure if Ajax will be so willing.

That's true, we do have a good relationship with Ajax though, could be in our favour. It's not so bad for them to replace players though as well due to how good their academy is and the fact they can just take someone half decent off a lesser Dutch team.

I know where you're coming from, I'm just not sure we'd see Berahino as established quite yet - he's just as fresh as Kane, and needs consistency across a couple of seasons imo
