I simply don't understand this logic, Eriksen was in a similar situation and on his day is within touching distance of world class, a few levels above King and he only went for what was it 18 million? So why on earth would be bang down 20 million on King. It's absurd.
Higher fees for players moving to other premier league clubs

Up to a point, but historically either somebody else nips in or we end up with nothing some other way.

I see a lot of Spurs fans saying same type of thing when we drag out a transfer, and could understand it 5+ years ago but things are pretty different these days and especially so when dealing with these 'unglamorous' sort of signings - realistically, if King wanted Spurs, who bigger nips in and takes him ?

Not necessarily bigger but maybe a decent team that would play him every week.

I just don’t get how LB is such a large priority and an AM/CM isn’t.

If Ben Davies got injured for any length of time we'd be absolutely screwed. Having said that I agree that an AM / CM who can pass is also a massive priority. Let's face it our squad needs an awful lot of work. Let's hope the apparent interest in DVDB means we want to sign an AM.

because we need a striker

The logic of "We need" typically applies to every single transfer otherwise clubs wouldn't be signing those players. Let's face it, some of you are just part of the pay the money posse who seemingly want to accept whatever the selling teams demands are but also are simultaneously the first to complain when we don't have the funds for whatever hole in the squad we deem needs filling next. If some of you were in charge we'd have paid 25 mill for Hojbjerg and probably chucked in KWP for free. There's a bigger picture at play, we signed the two most important positions and now we have to be smart with our money.

So offering half their asking price wasn't so far out?
So, what we know: their asking price was under £20m, we offered just over half which was rejected, and dragon thinks it’ll get done for £10m.

Sounds like the asking price was well under £20m

Eriksen only had 6 months left on his contract, whereas King has a year. I imagine he didn't leave in Summer 2019 (when he had a year left on his contract), because no one met our asking price. As I recall, the rumours last summer were that we were hoding out for circa £40m.

I'm not saying we should be willing to pay £20m for King, but the difference in remaining contract will be a factor.

My bad - I thought D1 had said "just under 20m".

Yeah it's a fair point, as you say though, that still doesn't vindicate potentially 20 mill. Sounds like it's going to end up under that if it happens though.

A player at Kings level with 10 months remaining on his contract shouldn’t be valued at £20m! Even £15m is great value for Bournemouth.

Agree, but its negotiating...we start low, they start high, compromise somewhere in the middle being the objective.

Dragon:

Today king is flavor of the month on the strikers front and we are In talks , it has literally gone from ings to woods to king in a week

bournmouth set what most would consider a reasonable amount for a striker in modern terms despite kings contract length, price Under 20 and levy then offered a little over half their valuation lol
Well done DL! Low ball and work your way up to a compromise. It’s business after all. And I am not being sarcastic either.

Eriksen only had six months left, King is HG, different positions, etc. There's loads of reasons why the price could be different.

Amazing how many people seem to not understand this. I'm sure it must be wilful in a lot of cases.

I think we need to factor the situation into our thinking regarding price. Like, is King worth 20m? Maybe. Is he worth 20m when you're looking at playing 10 matches in 20 days because of cup and europa matches in Sept? I think he's worth splashing that little extra to keep Harry fresh. Though maybe JM thinks Troy can fill some of those spots. Dunno. My point being, the compressed nature of our schedule this year is going to highlight our need for legitimate depth and could be a reason to not play this out through October.

EDIT: I'm a fool and keep forgetting we already sent Troy off to Millwall. Apologies
I thought you were referring to Troy Deeney ?
