You know what?

Forget Lallana, Rodriguez, Lovren and the like. We have better or equivalent already.

Take the youngsters, sure, but hope Poch can improve our already better players beyond the level of his Southampton team.

Apart from Vertonghen who of our CB's are better than Lovren?

Lovren would be a solid signing definitely and one I expect us to make.

considering how smooth the poch to spurs deal went it would not be surprised if a deal was struck between both clubs that we would not raid yhem for their players
i hope so it would not sit right with me if we tried to take the heart out of their club

Think people may be underestimating why Lovren will cost. Soton paid what, 9m? Plus a years wages, and they'll want a healthy return on their investment as 1. they are losing lots of other players and 2. he's surely on a long contract. If I were Southampton I would only be letting players go who are seriously overvalued or have a contract running down.

Got 3 years left on his deal iirc. Yeah they'll want £16m-ish I would imagine.

I agree, but most of these players will leave anyway. That makes it easier to stomach.

Didn't Poch resign though? Therefore there couldn't have been anything other than a gentlemens agreement.

Lovren and Shaw fill the two areas we need to improve most. Lallana would fill the LW area nicely too, but in all honesty I think we'd be lucky just to get Lovren.

Unconvinced by Lovren, found his niche at Saints but never rated him at all, Titus Bramble found his niche at Wigan, Curtis Davies found his niche at Hull, both were laughing stocks till then, same as Lovren

I would not want to see Lovren at Spurs

I doubt there was any such agreement. Pochettino quit and then we signed him. For there to be an agreement we would have had to have agreed a deal with Saints to be able to talk to him and we would have paid a fee for him.

As it is I bet we paid whatever costs Pochettino had to pay to break his contract but it would mean that we could bid for any of their players.

He found his niche in Pochettino's system, and we'll be playing Pochettino's system.

Even so its a different level of expectation at Spurs, we have someone imho better than Lovren in Vlad and if he gets his head out of his ass Vertonghen is better and if he can recapture his fitness so is Kaboul

I don't think Vlad is better just yet, nor does he possess the verbal leadership that Lovren has. Lovren is also not only familiar with Poch's unusual tactics, but also Lloris. Knee cartilage is not meant to heal (just scars), so I'm not sure Kaboul will ever return to his previous self, as much as it pains me to say it.

I thought Vlad did pretty well moving to a new league and playing for 2 absolute clusterfucks of managers, he will get better and better

Kaboul i think will make it, after 18 months out injured he bound to be rusty, any player would be but the fact he put together a run of games without relapse is a good sign

We need a left back, center back and one striker. Levy shouldn't need a new coach and his entourage to tell him that.

Absolutely agree with you about Vlad, but I don't think he's better than Lovren nor does he offer the aforementioned additional perks. Tis a squad game anyway, and Vlad would undoubtedly still see plenty of minutes. But I don't think he's quite ready to be first choice in the league.

I admire your loyalty and optimism pertaining to Kaboul, but believe you me, people don't just recover from his kind of injury and especially not the big fellas. I think we saw the signs of that lack in step manifested in how frequently he was forced to put in very poor and desperate tackles (effect of the psychological awareness) that got him red cards. While it's true that several of those were due to poor passes from Rose, a quick and able-bodied CB such as Lovren would not have been forced to make those desperate tackles and instead would have been able to at least slow the player down. This is particularly essential in Poch's high line, as the best way to expose it is with fast counterattacking play. Having Kaboul in his degrading state facing such breaking counterattacks does not bode well for our successes.
