Spurs are a whole lot less attractive to sponsors without Bale which I'm sure DL would have factored in when calculating 'his price'. No point selling him to fund the stadium only to lose millions in potential naming rights.

More than a Bernard we need Paulinho type of player - box to box midfielder who can score & assist.
Last season - 7 goals & 7 assists from 23 games.
This season aleady has scored 3 goals across 3 competition.

But getting him from Sao Paulo would be a tall order.

Anywa, I wouldnt say no to Bernard either :D

Yes, getting Paulinho from Sao Paulo would be a fcuking nightmare, not least because he's a Corinthians player.

We couldn't say no to 80 mil. Lamela is very similar to Bale as is Reus. So Real have options if they so wish.

Bale won't be sold though.

Still on the Levy subject, I agree wholeheartedly that he has done a great job on moving the club forward from mid-table mediocraty to the position where we have been challenging for top 4 for the last 4 years. What irritates the fuck out of me is the way he deals with transfer negotiations. It appears to me that he views it like a game of chicken and drags it out soooooooooo looooooooooooong! The problem then is that the other clubs just back out or, like last season with Oscar and Hazard (?) where we were, apparantly, in discussions with them and their clubs and Chelscum just nipped in waved the big cheque book and we lost out.

Danny boy just get on and fucking do it! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Think when Frank Arneson arrived in Summer 2004 we signed about 12 players that window (remember Mendes, Davis, Robinson, Carrick, Naybet, Edman, Atouba, Pamarot etc. and probably sold quite a few as well. If their contacts are good and they are good at their job then it's possible to get things moving quickly.

Which goes to show what shit can be brought for 80m should we choose to sell Bale.

We would get 5-6 Dempsey/Gylfi/Holtby level signings. Decent enough players but you could have 100 of these in your ranks and they wont be able to provide the magic that one true world class stars can.

I think we should be looking at what we could do WITH Bale still in the team. Who we could sign on the promise of playing with Bale and AVB as manager (as he seems to be regarded highly).

Players might see that as us being ready to challenge.

So come on you ITK'ers, let's be having some players to play alongside Bale!! JJ that includes you ;)

Baldini in by end of the week would be a positive start. I do believe someone else near the top helping out is a good thing for us, not because I am anti Levy, but because the strains of running the Global brand of THFC requires a lot of effort, effort that I believe Levy should be focussing on the Stadium and such like, with a DoF worrying about recruitment of players.

If/when we sell Bale I want Lamela to replace him. He should want a move as Roma don't have any European football at the moment and look a mess, and although he'd be expensive his value will only be increasing. If I were Levy the price would be 60m + Lamela's fee.

Edit: To be honest, I want Lamela anyway. A front three of Bale-AnyCompetentStriker-Lamela would have us scoring absolutely for fun. I'm holding out hope that Baldini will want to bring him along.

Aside from the points you make, Levy also has to balance up the effect of selling Bale on the ability to get a stadium naming rights sponsor - and we know that the stadium is Danny's main priority. If you are trying to get a sponsorship of say £15m for 20 years (£300m) it maybe that selling Bale means the sponsor will not get the marketing exposure he wants so the sponsorship doesn't happen.

So £85m in but £300m doesn't happen. Think Levy may run the risk that Bale's stock is at its high point - and that's the reason Levy won't sell Bale this summer.

Or we get our sponsorships deal signed sealed and delivered in the next few weeks making this a moot point. Bale has served his purpose.

Still i think its a sad day when fans of the club would rather have a few quid in the bank over a true talent in the team. I know what I want when I set off to the lane on match day.

Ive spent enough years watching run of the mill average dross wearing a Spurs shirt to cherish having a Bale sized talent line up for us.

if I was an oil Arab id buy Spurs, just saying, the club is run very well, very little or no debt, so I wouldn't have to do a city or Chelsea and wipe out 100's of millions, plus a stadium that I could name after myself etc, id love to own Spurs lol

I think that's ENIC's ultimate plan. Problem is, if you think Levy is tough to deal with on transfers, imagine him selling the entire club...

Bale's not going anywhere this season.

We have too much contract time and too much to lose sponsorship wise to panic into selling him.

He'll be worth more next summer when he scores 40 goals.

Its a bit of an irresponsible way to fritter your cash away considering there are people starving in the world.

Instead think of the good things you could achieve if instead you brought arsenal and completely and utterly fucked them up.

Or we would get 3/4/5 Lloris/Vertonghen/Dembele signings. I'd quite like a few more of those.
