I trust Conte and Fabio... the only players I don't want are lazy and unprofessional players... and obviously they have to be 100% dedicated to the club, team and project... I don't care about names... as long as we improve our squad quality-wise and in numbers as well, because of the amount of games and Conte's demands.

To be fair the one thing I learnt in January was most of you don't know anything about a decent player ?.

Kulu and Bentancur were awful. Before that Ndombele was the 2nd coming for the majority.

Let's not melt down over one comment from an agent.
Please don’t forget the state of it in here when we were going to buy SB!! The best player ever.

I’m gutted because I wanted Conte to get his first choice.

BUT

We have shown him that we are going to back him. There doesn’t seem to have been anything more we could have done here and that’s important

Also, Bastoni is Bastoni post Conte. He himself credits Conte with 90% of his development. Davies is unrecognisable compared to last season, to the point where many argue if he deserves to be dropped.

So I doubt Bastoni was going to improve massively having already worked with Conte, but we have no idea what kind of player Torres could develop into under the Italian’s guidance

The targets for LCB are very underwhelming, and not great. I include Torres in that. Can’t defend, poor in the air. We did sniff Carmo. Out of what I have seen on the list thus far, he is the best option.
I want Torres because if we don’t get him we’ll end up with Lenglet or Hermoso who would literally offer a downgrade on Davies.

I don't mind Torres personally. Think he needs some work but that's what Conte does. Fundamentals are good imo.
This is the key for me. We're talking high of Bastoni largely because Conte took him up to that level. He could do the same for Torres.

What I don't get is we didn't bid for him and they now have said he's not for sale...all smells fishy to me

Think Torres is about as good as Bastoni currently as a LCB. Difference is Bastoni will probably go on to be world class and is Conte’s #1 but Torres is still a very good LCB.

I posted it in his thread but worth posting this again to stop any meltdowns from D1 from Thursday last week.

dragon1 on COYS has breathed fire for the first time for a while:

Do not get fixated on Bastani we are looking at 3 other CH , one will be joining for sure

Still very curious to see who Inter sell to raise the funds. Is Skriniar for real or just noise? Is Martinez available now if they’re going for Lukaku again? Very interesting and if it’s the latter hope we’re very much involved.

But whatever the outcome is hope this puts an end to us dealing with Inter. You can be difficult to deal with, no problem, but absolutely no need to be bellends to the level they are

For what it's worth and apropos of nothing much my experience of dealing with Italian companies, in a different life when I worked for a living, was that is never straightforward. Right at the end when you think you are meeting to sign the contract they come up with another requirement, it happened every single time. We used to hold out on far less than we were willing to accept knowing we had a reserve. Only thing to do is immediately say Chao and walk away and wait for them to come back again and then and only then consider using that reserve. I don't know about the Inter boss but I'm sure Fabio Paratici knows the score.

Yeah I can believe you.... look how we thought we had Conte in June last year.... that then broke down when we thought we in the home stretch. Same happened with Martinez......so hopefully we have a contingency in place and move on.

Oh well. Like Hojbjerg running his ginger-tinted lungs out, we gave it everything but alas this time it didn't come off.

Always felt it was a bit too good to be true. Inter kid born and bred who loves the club and has a 4 month old kid telling Conte he'd come to a team that just scraped a CL place in a different country.

Obviously we're on the up and he loves Conte, but when you take a step back I think the fact we even reached this point is a bit of a surprise. There was always a high chance of Inter, Chelsea, a dodgy agent or simply Bastoni's personal life going against us on this deal.

On to the next! COYS!

When do I get a blue background for my dedicated whoring from COYS (as I expect I'm the only one on here not banned from COYS!!|)

Thing is, it doesn't mean it's all over it's just as likely to be done by the end of the week. As I said we'd wait for them to come back and they almost always did.

Disappointing twist on Bastoni but really wouldn’t surprise me if this is further posturing (his agent maintaining face with the fans or more likely securing himself as big a wedge of any transfer fee as possible) and it will be back on tomorrow. If not, doesn’t sound like there is more we could have done and hopefully AC is content.
