A transfer window which potentially involves parting company permanently with Defoe and Huddlestone, as well as Dempsey, can only be construed as a positive.

It seems like everyone has a for sale sign on them, bar the players we've just bought!

Shaw signed a new long term contract recently though didn't he?

Think Southampton would want silly money for him so probably best to see how the lad develops first as he's still very young.

I am suprised...we can afford him now, this time next year he will be out of our reach and bigger fish may snap him up.

Can we? £10-15m for LB cover? We'd still need another starter like Coentrao, Shaw is nowhere near top-4 quality yet.

They would indeed, the days of accepting low-ish ball bids for there top stars are well and truly over, there Chairman has been likened to our own Bald Headed leader.

Re Jasper
(1) I think the most important thing is that he says the defensive unit is nearly sorted (even with Dawson and Kaboul out for longer than expected) - this is good news.
(2) he does not post here but that sounds like a "come and get me" plea (to use SSN parlance) - is he on a free or would there be a transfer fee involved as he is not "homegrown"? I am worried about our lineup going forward: the new lad (LLM) seems to be bedding in well, but with JJ potentially on his way out, the team for next season may lack a cutting edge.

I hope Bale stays another year but I'm not sure he's going to start on form due to the lack of pre-season. It could be a little while for him to get going. That could cost us some points early on this season. It's good to hear he is still getting on with things but it must be affecting him and it will no doubt play on his mind until the window closes.

It really does piss me off that teams unsettle our players in the transfer window. I would love for the season to start with the window closed so we can focus on the season ahead. Teams like Real Madrid and Man Utd get away with this sort of thing every time.

Big money transfer Jasper from SO to SC?
Someone needs to speak to his agent!

Regards Parker, he is one of the few experienced players we've got, was player of the year a couple of years ago and is maybe just a strong character to have around. Sure, he's limited but I see a lot of our tactics based on controlling the game and squeezing the opposition. He does actually contribute to this pretty effectively and if Sandro's fitness is under scrutiny then Parker at least offers continuity in a time where there is a lot of change. I don't even particularly rate him, but I can understand his role and you need a few workhorses about.

Jasper's posts do reveal a little about the doubly addictive nature of ITK. 'I am quitting' followed by 'here's a few snippets'

I disagree with this. I think Huddlestone and Defoe have a lot to offer us still. They are both brilliant when they get a run of games in the team. Defoe was on fire at the start of last season until he got injured.

Huddlestone is one of our only players that can put the ball on a sixpence for players and we dont use him enough in my opinion!

I believe AVB thought Luke Shaw would take time to adjust to the huge attacking/ defending responsibilities a full back must be capable of for the 4-3-3. I can see Southampton taking nothing less than £8 million plus ridiculous future incentives which they'd be unwilling to sell (Bale was a hard lesson for them there) as they are no longer in financial trouble! That sort of fee for a player you would think should be paid for someone who'll start week in/ week out not so we have to wait another year or two till he's ready! I also believe we're being hesitant in bringing in a new LB because CB is the priority plus I believe someone said there are no offers for BAE! We don't want either Coentrao or Shaw + Rose + BAE on our books!

Imagine how Inter feel with our constant attention towards LD.

It would appear Levy has learnt a thing or two from their chairman.

Sorry but Hudd has consistently shown that he is far too slow for a top Premiership team. He has not fulfilled his potential and his so called passing ability is shown far too rarely. Doesn't score enough goals and we need to sell him.

Hudd came on in Monaco games and drop balls off at the wings and provided some defensive covers..... I thought that was a decent compared to Parker running around and expose our kiddy defence.

I rather keep Hudd than Parker if I have to choose. At least there is some variant in the play.

Other posters on the site where he posts it. TBH it has been quite bad this window. I can see why he has got fed up with it.
In which case we should invite him over to SC - make SO an offer of a 1978-79 handbook , payable in instalments of 5 pages a year for ten years :)

I'm sure he's dismissed rumours about leaving Southampton for us fairly recently too.

Seems pretty level headed and being totally honest, he will be best served playing under Pochettino for the next couple of seasons.
