Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern, Juventus, PSG, Chelsea, Man Utd and Man City respectfully disagree with you.

No-ones saying that we need to go out and spend like these teams, but if we want to compete for titles and cups, then we need to improve and address the known weaknesses we have. Doesn’t have to be someone who is world class, but you can’t tell me there isn’t anyone out there at a semi reasonable price who can help us, even if it’s just upgrading the bench or who has the potential to become world class.

Hercules's analysis/opinion fits with what we've been hearing re: Grealish. He is not our first option, but because he will need to be sold this window, we aren't going to wait until deadline day to get it done. We'll know tomorrow whether we've got the player who we'd prefer over him or not and act accordingly. The silence re: Toby indicates that that transaction(s) will be where the deadline day fireworks are going to be.

I love the notion that if you are unhappy with us not signing anybody in a transfer market you automatically discredit everything else good for the club.

Fact is Sanchez last summer and Wanyama the year before were vital in us achieving our goals.

There's a reason we are the only club not to make a signing in Europe's top 5 leagues.

So it looks like Grealish or Bust. If there is a big signing to be made we'd surely be hearing something by tonight, tomorrow morning at the latest.

Probably go to deadline day and the Alderweireld saga will edge closer and we'll cling to the hope of Martial.

Toby goes, Martial stays. We'll duly announce Grealish and some new contracts being signed. That's probably our most realistic scenario.

But selling Toby on deadline day with no Martial, or other significant signing, is going to sting for most.
