This first choice stuff is really beginning to get on my Tits, who are our first choices then? Why haven't we been decisive and went and signed them a month ago? If they haven't moved somewhere else at this point then surely they could have been wrapped up by us by now?

Or clubs/agents/players have put off dealing because they were hoping a bigger club might come in with a more attractive offer / we didn't want to risk alerting those clubs before they'd done their business.

I always start the day slightly optimistically, thinking that this has to be the day that we actually do something to move the team/club forwards... and by the time I get to lunch time the optimism that we have a plan completely disappears and my mood resembles Francis Gibbs in the Lamela thread...

Why should this info be shared with us? You either have faith or you don't. And if your faith has not been repaid over a number of years that you deem long enough before you start getting frustrated then you can start getting frustrated.

Not a dig at the ITK expecting them to share or anything, wasn't meant to come across that way. My thoughts are that there aren't any "first Choice" targets at this stage and that we're gonna end up with the big "we tried, but" because my faith in that has certainly been repaid.

I was perfectly calm an hour ago! This f*cking transfer window, I swear.

Yes of course. I wasn't meaning ITKs either, I was meaning the club. I prefer it when our business is done on the quiet. We are not a Man City or Liverpool that can pay £15m more for someone because its public and we WANT to get it done.

ITK and others have alluded to the fact that the leg work was done in making contact/ making clubs aware of our interest in their players. Problems we encountered in pursuing our option A's and B's is that we can't compete with clubs paying above the market value. Waiting until the back end of the market allows Levy to do what Levy does best - if our first choice options are still available, we can then put in an offer without to great of a threat from another club coming in and trumping our bid. It makes sense to have multiple options for similar positions, if we cannot sign option A's, the likes of Kovacic or N'dombele, we will then look to those with leverage, such as Grealish or Lobotka that make a deal slightly easier, especially if their club is facing financial difficulties or have reasonable release clauses etc...

Signings in different areas offer cover in other positions. When Toby inevitably leaves, Diers versatility presumably will be used to cover CB when needed and DM also, which would explain us looking to buy depth in midfield and not a direct CB replacement. If we cannot secure more than one CM/DM then I guess we will then look at AM players, whilst dropping the likes of Alli or Eriksen into a deeper role.

Do like to drag it out though.

Thanks to @Trix for the latest ITK on Grealish. Up to 99 now.

I can see Levy rocking back in his leather chair, eyes closed, headphones on (think Patrick Bateman in American Psycho) listening to Jay-Z singing:

“we got 99 ITK’s but I ain’t signing one...”

10.5 hours of TODAY still remaining, lads.

Hang in there, we can do this.
I do wonder if even those who have been around the longest underestimate the morbid pleasure A&C may derive by intentionally starting the ITK thread with "TODAY" knowing it will send us into a frenzy but not having an specific meaning behind it other than it's today's itk thread.

Except last season we didnt improve, we stood still and Walker who we were all told was best he leave went on to win the double. I appreciate we have improved from 5 years ago but I feel we have reached a ceiling. I also dont believe that its impossible to improve our first 11, first of all we are bias to our players and second of all I think we might aswell sack our scouting department if they cant find a player who can either a. Improve our first 11 or b. Be on the level of our first 11 and provide depth.

You cant honestly tell me in the entire world of football theres not players that can improve our squad which wont cost 70 million.
This is not a helpful dialogue. First, I'm not sure it is properly placed in this ITK thread (it sounds more like a general gripe that we aren't signing top flight talent than anything else). Second, it is based upon the false premise that certain people here believe that we cannot improve on our first XI. No one believes that (least of all @Mr Pink). I get the frustration (I think we all do). But instead of trying to manufacture an argument in this thread as an outlet to that frustration, do something else. We all want a positive end to this window.

We're not doing the Levy thing AGAIN in this thread. We're just not.

The time for all of that will be right after the transfer window closes and not before.

Yeah I wasnt trying to manufacture an argument merely offering a different opinion based on what he said which appears deleted, we're all on the same side.

Plus I will actually provide a thread in here so you can stick the boot, knife, buttplug or dildo right into Beelzebub. Or defend him like a good son.
