Seems like Levy is trying to back Poch and keep improving the recruitment set-up, I get the sense he is happy he finally has a manager he can trust and will do his best to back him and has learnt from previous player recruitment mistakes.
I feel like our transfers are still a bit hit and miss but slowly getting better. Sanchez was a 9/10 signing for price and at that age and how quickly he’s adapted, Brilliant. Llorente good signing for his experience etc but not really the right fit for me. If Poch also wanted Sissoko and VJ then concerns over his ability to pick a player, but then again he’s improved us massively year on year by shaping and moulding the squad to his liking and playing Dier CDM for example was genius so I think he certainly knows what he is doing but transfers just don’t always pay off. I don’t think VJ was a complete failure just didn’t live up to quite what we wanted, Sissoko is offering something now, again not quite as much as we’d have liked but he’s added something we didn’t have before so all in all I think it comes down to in Poch & Levy we trust, I just hope this summer we get it right as going into the new stadium one or two high profile signings could really see us get a fast start next year with all the positive vibes if the new ground is ready.
I personally don’t think our recruiting is that much better or worse than some of the other top6 clubs over the last 5-10 years, it’s just that the likes of Man.City, Chelsea and Man.U have spent big quite often and players like De Bruyne, Aguero, Yaya Toure, Kompnay, David Silva, Pogba, Ibra, lukaku, Hazard,Morata, etc etc are all far less likely to flop than a £17mil striker with only one seasons experience in the Dutch PL or a £7mil winger from Marseille etc.
COYS.
I think he offered more than Llorente tbh. Work rate at least
Llorente's been so utterly shite that not only does he make me long for Janssen, but long for the return of Rasziak.
Is that a new STD?Tumbleweeds...
True, just think Jansen suited our style more, Llorente is great for European games where it’s slower and his experience is helpful so that’s a real bonus and I bet th squad respect him for what he’s achieved but on the pitch I think janssen offered a bit more to be honest just think he is a confidence player and it’s hard to score with 10,15 min appearances off the bench every game.Seriously, Banging them in in the Prem isn't easy. There are lots of players in the league that are supposed to be Prem level scorers, and they're struggling.
In 17 appearances for Palace, Benteke has managed just one goal this campaign. Lacazette, 8 in 25. Callum Wilson and Josh King combined have just 7 goals in 33.
I rather liked Jansen's contribution. We've got scorers in Son, Dele, Lamela, and Eriksen. Jansen definitely created space and opportunities.

Truth is neither of them suit our style. Simply not mobile enough. Which is why I find it odd that we signed them, especially if they were Pochettino picks.
I think the entire premise of buying a striker who can only play instead of Kane is wrong. We need to be looking at buying another player like Son who can play instead of Kane when required but for most of the time is capable of playing with Kane. Neither Janssen or Llorente are that player and if we look to sign another one this summer I’d be very concerned about the planning of our squad construction.Personality counts with Pochettino, possibly more than talent in some cases. Gazzaniga was signed as 3rd choice keeper apparently on the basis that he's a good lad in the dressing room, and actually turned out to be needed to play against Palace (when did we last start our 3rd choice keeper?).
Any striker who's interested in coming to Spurs knows they'll be second choice as we have a genuine superstar up front. Perhaps Llorente was picked as a player who wouldn't mind limited minutes behind Kane (first priority), is a positive presence in the squad (second priority) and is pretty good at the actual football bit (third priority). If those were the criteria, you're pretty much looking at either a youngster or a veteran - you won't get (to pick random examples) Daniel Sturridge or Andre Gray to come and sit on the bench. You're limiting yourself to relatively slim pickings, of which Llorente then ended up being the best available. His previous experience at international level is probably a useful thing to have around for the kids, too. Of course, Wilfred Bony was available at the same time - maybe we should have cut out the middle man!
Problem is that good players want to play - especially in World Cup years. If you’re a top class striker, your first question is going to be whether you will be getting game time. With Kane as the competition for the lone striker role, chances are you won’t be!I think the entire premise of buying a striker who can only play instead of Kane is wrong. Alternatively, we DO sign someone on Kane’s level and guarantee him starts - then Kane gets the hump and wants to leave... bit of a challenge.
And I can see it being the same for anyone looking to slot into Alli’s place, etc.
Only time it works out is in cases like signing Sanchez where rotation is possible, he was young and looking to step up a level and then got “lucky” with the injury to Toby.
So what we're saying is, we have a small club mentality and will never have any depth of note...
Good call by Hercules to say GKN would go out on loan. That was back in the 2nd of January.
It was......means Lamela can get in CL squad !
It’s funny you replied to my post because you seemed to completely ignore what I said. If we sign another player like Son - examples from the Bundesliga would be Reus or Schurrle - you don’t need to address the question of whether they will get game time due to Kane playing because they can play WITH Kane. If you keep trying to sign someone who can only play INSTEAD of Kane you will continue to have a problem.Problem is that good players want to play - especially in World Cup years. He could’ve anyway, you can make some changes to the squad, 3 I think
