The ‘not your money’ comments baffle me. No, it’s not our money. But we are clearly working within a pretty tight budget. Tighter than our competitors, as noted by Poch. So, even though we are not taking the financial hit personally we are aware of the consequences of overpaying for certain players, both in terms of our budget and of the perception of our willingness and capacity to pay in future.

It’s a legit concern.

It's a tight budget because Levy make's it tight. He could push the boat it, he doesn't want to. Forget our competitors what about the rest of the league. Why does everyone spend more than us??

"Can't secure a Championship player"

If we got to a non-League club and try and buy a player and they quote us 100m so we decide against, is that us "can't secure a non-League player"

Critical thinking is lost on some :ROFLMAO:

Paid 30 million for Sissoko though. I'm sure a few people were a bit incredulous about that.

That's not true, just cause you bend on one or two deals, doesn't mean you bend on all. Walk away if the deal doesn't suit, but for those extra special players, pay a bit more.

How much is a bit more ? and a bit more than what ?

If you the potential buying club value a player at say 20 million max how much more than that would you go ? 25 million as an example would represent an increase of 25 % over what you actually value him at. Good sense has to intervene somewhere.

Poch is great at improving players but it also needs the player to buy into that.... for every Alli or Winks there is an NKoudou or Jansen...Neither of whom we can sell at any price it seems this window but both we were jumping up and down about buying. We spend 35m on Grealish and he doesn't take to Pochs training etc that's a lot to risk on essentially a 50/50 bet at 20-25m it makes sense... at 35m that's a 40% higher risk.

Yeah I get that and I agree it is too high a price. I'd have taken the risk cos I really rate him and think he'd have flourished here with Poch. When it gets above a certain price every signing becomes risky to an extent. I just think it's a shame and I don't see an alternative at this late stage.

Everyone net spends more than us every year (apart from southàmpton). How many teams are you envious of ?

Or maybe spending loads isn’t the holy grail ...?

Édit: this has diverged from itk so I will stop discussing this.

I tell you what would of helped father time. If he had done business earlier in the window like many of the other moronic chairman, maybe we wouldn't be in this mess

Are you happy brother? To be good but never great? genuine question. If we continued on like this when would you break?

It’s not even at a point where I’m annoyed at Grealish not happening because we shouldn’t be in a situation where not buying Jack Grealish completely ruins our transfer window.

For whatever reason that we may not have done good or any business come tomorrow when the window closes it will be very very disappointing. Even if there was some explanation by anyone at the club or ITK, I just won’t wanna hear it to be honest, am past caring about the reasoning in such a situation.

We’ll see tomorrow but today, just a day before the window shuts feels like every other day of the window so far, fuck all happening.

That was desperation from Levy wasn't it. He'll be desperate now signing nobody. Whether he brings players the manager wants is another story. See Sissoko's in Poch's book for reference.

What mess? Everton for the last 3 years spunk money all over the place and have barely finished top half... should we swap the way our club is run with them just so we can get a shiny new over rated toy every few weeks of the summer? or shall we stick to what's had us consistently in the top 5 for the past decade and top 4 for the last 3 years?

We’ve known roughly what they’d want the entire transfer window. We should have moved on WEEKS ago. Levy gambles on deadline day every year, and the house usually wins.

When it comes to Grealish, everybody knows that Villa are in a bind over FFP. They need to generate somewhere close to £45m, so it won't just be Grealish that goes. Sure, they could try to keep him, but with just his sale they can put a huge dent in that £45m. And no team wanting to win promotion will want to keep Grealish at the expense of five or six other less valuable players. Lose your star player or gut the squad?

With that in mind, only a complete idiot would buy Grealish early in the transfer window. It's tough on Villa, but them's the breaks.

And won what? Imagine if the mother fucker truly backed the club

Lads. The thread is very close to becoming locked.

Please can you calm down. If you're annoyed about anything to do with a particular player ---> head to that player's thread please.

Come on. For your own sakes.

I still think there will twist or turn or several. Am I the only one that still thinks this can happen??

As suggested by itk earlier we are looking to bring in 2 maybe 3. So I still think we will make a new signing, maybe not plan B G or even H, but I’m optimistic we will bring 1/2 in
