Thanks for the info Mystery. No need to elaborate further.

I'm going to assume that if it's an 8 it must either be one of Llorente or Rossi or a surprise someone from Madrid.

First time post.

I think that the ITK discussion thread should only open up on the last week of the window because that seems to be the only time when we ever do any business.

Someone needs to tell the powers at be at our club that the window is open before the last week in August.

I'm not suggesting that deals are easy to do but just because you cant sign someone before the window opens surely doesnt mean that you cant talk about them?!!

I have a bad feeling that we will go into September with no new faces because we have been here before...January springs to mind!

You'll fit in well here with the other negative gits...

I still fail to believe that anything is going on 'behind the scenes'.

Modric is staying because we've told him to stay. I really don't think we've convinced him by bidding for players and I don't think we've convinced him with a secret signing.

i agree - i fail to believe that Modric or any of the other players would ever have any idea who we are trying to buy.

hope the modric stuff is correct as it's something i predicted will happen to all that would listen to me. Ever since the Levy statement i've been especailly easy to wind up by the press banging on about "i think Modric will go" i wanted them all to bet thier careers on it. Rinse the world of lazy bile filled journos all in one foul swoop.

This.

Players are just employees at the end of the day. They won't know anything about whats going on at management level.

One thing I'm genuinely curious about is how critical Levy views the upcoming season. More specifically, does he believe that not finishing in the top 4 will lead to Bale, Modric and others heading for the exits?

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he believes we can be austere in the short-term and hold onto our players by simply refusing to sell next summer or the summer after that, no matter where we finish in the league. If we could get Defoe going again or perhaps develop a young striker, then we still have a top 5 caliber side with an even larger profit margin.

It would be an interesting gambit. Perhaps spend little or be frugal until you uncover a gem or two up front (Coulibaly) and tell discontent players like Modric that they are bound to a contract and to get on with it going into 2012, 2013, etc.

As for strikers, well, I think we'll have to do the best we can in these first three games and hope Levy can land something late in the window for a modest fee.

I don't know about that... you've gotta do what it takes to keep the talent happy (or at least content...)

DL knows that the club will need to show ambition in this window in order to:

a) keep Modric, Bale, etc. convinced that THFC is the right place for them;
b) keep the fans onside;
c) be able to attract the likes of Ancelloti (if Harry gets sent down.... yeah, I know, ifs, buts and maybes); and
d) ultimately protect and maintain the value (incl. goodwill) of the club.

I think he'll pull the trigger and try and get something big done.... it just depends on whether his definition of a "top player" is the same as that of the fans... but I also think he'll play it right down to the wire, in which case he'll run the risk of not making the right signing, and then offer silly money for someone like Carlton Cole or Scott Parker in a misguided effort to just make a signing, any signing.

I hope I'm wrong but I just think that Levy loves the art of the deal and that he thinks he's smarter than everyone else.
