I'd take Richards if he was dirt cheap. Would be a decent fullback cover and a decent 4th choice CB. But in doing that, why move in the first place. He'll end up somewhere like Newcastle.

I'd say QPR now Caulker has snubbed them for Palace.

For £6m or under Richards is a better option than Dawson.

Quick, powerful, could play the high line, would compliment Chiriches and Vertonghen well. Injuries could be a problem though.

He's got the potential to be an absolute rock if Pochettino works with him.

If we pay what we get for Dawson then why not? More versatile, quicker, younger. Love Daws but its time to let go.

Still think there's a decent player in richards somewhere. Just needs the correct motorvation that a new club and manager could give him. I think he would improve the squad, and it's squad depth that improves league position.
He's athleticism could be an ace up our sleave against some strikers of a certain one dimensional playing style.

I disagree. Richards is a liability. Not fit to lace Dawson's boots. He's so clumsy and appalling at positioning.

And what good is a 4th choice CB who is always injured (especially when our 2nd choice one - Kaboul - is too).

Not even on a free for me.

How many cup games do we realistically get against League Two sides though?

And I'd back Dawson every time against Carroll over Richards (who is only 5'11" remember)

Well he isn't a donkey, he is an absolute beast in terms of an athlete although he does appear to be made of glass.

His biggest issue is that he lacks football intelligence (which unfortunately is true of a few of our squad Walker and Townsend are particular examples). If we could get him fit and use him as a (backup) CB he would be a decent option and of course wouldn't take up one of our 17 international over 21 slots. The big doubt in that is if we could keep him fit much like Kaboul.

Not going to happen anyway. So this was a waste of a post lol.

His biggest issue is that he's a donkey!

Richards has everything in his locker to be a very good player, he just needs coaching. People will say he has no footballing brain but that's something he can work on, just like how other less physically imposing players have to "bulk up".

Complete donkey's a bit harsh. He's not terrible on the ball, other wise he wouldn't have done reasonably well as a RB, well enough to get England call ups and play 30 games in their first title season 10-11 - also most assists of any defender in the EPL that season.

He's aggressive, strong, pretty quick. Not the cleverest but maybe as a CB could be a foil for the the likes of Vertonghen/Chiriches. You're basically getting Dawson's attitude but with quicker legs and more confidence on the ball.

Could do better, could do worse for fuck all ?

He's aggressive, strong, pretty quick but definitely not the cleverest. I thinks that's about right.

You of all people BC have zero tolerance for poor decision makers with limited intelligence. You'd do your nut.

That's a bit over dramatic. The weakness in your argument stems from the assumption that Richards would not be able to jump higher than Dawson.

And least forget, he has the pace to potetially rectify any mistakes over Dawson. Something that would be of benefit in the Poch's system of a high line.

If I thought we could get a cb with all those qualities and a brain I'd be chuffed, and Richards wouldn't be my first choice but I don't think he's a donkey either.

So Dawson is good against Donkeys like Carroll? Hardly a ringing endorsement.

Richards is City's Danny Rose. All the physical attributes, no concentration.
Wouldn't be adverse to the signing, we just need someone in the back line to step up and become the general.
