With the midfield options we now have dier, wanyama, dembele, sissoko and alli, i cant wait to play chelsea it will resemble a battle scene from game of thrones.

Dont like the sound of players playing in multiple positions tbh

Specialists bring consistency and are more effective than players doing a job

The system brings the consistency, Poch rarely deviates from it and it's bought him relative success. The tactical flexibility therefore comes through the personnel, and he has quite a few options he clearly fancies.

So true. The thing is with the chav games is that they're 5 weeks apart, so if the first game is heated then it'll still be fresh in the players minds and thus making the second game probably even more heated.

Really worried about the terrible potential of Wilshere at Bournemouth. As a coastal town, it experiences some moderate wind speed and he could really injure himself

I think shinehead has just passed a very big test. Whether you like it or not it was an important signing; and may well turn out to be a stonker (if MS can gain some consistency).

I, personally, would have preferred Tielemans (not sure if I've said...I think that's the first time I've mentioned him...) so we could craft more from the centre and thread balls through with speed and accuracy. So useful to have those 20/30 yard vertical balls fizzed through the oppo to an A3's/9's feet - priceless, in fact, imo.

The powerhouse will do though and now give us the option to field a very strong 433 should poch wish to venture.

Lots of power/strngth in the team now; Isco would have made this a top top window though.

Pace and craft still lacking a little, but we're still a work in progress. Next summer we'll complete the squad properly and have the right quality/skills base/balance which will be the model to carry us forward for years to come and we can then bring the youngsters through into a very clear, stable framework.

The most important thing is that Poch now knows shinehead properly has his back and isn't just all talk. Very important going forward. It allows poch to really think long term here and make realistic projections irt personnel.

I want poch here for the next ten years+ and he simply must be here when we transition to the new stadium. We need that stability/continuity going into it.

Anyway, I've slagged cue-ball head off a bit, but fair play - good job SH.(y)

Thanks to everyone for a most entertaining TR window. The site held up superbly - although I wonder if it would have held out if we had signed Isco??? I guess we'll never know! Lol...

Jose and Pep would disagree, They both love muti-fuctional players. I think I'll go with Poch and those two...

Just read the Sissoko thread from about 6pm onwards last night. Hilarious :D.

Anyway, just to echo what others have said about the running of this place and this thread in particular. Great job by the mods, site ran well with no slowdowns and appreciate all the ITK's and the cracking banter as always. I've been around here for every transfer window deadline day in the last 11 years and yesterday was one of the better ones :).

I still worry we have too much brawn and too little brains in the squad and Eriksen has no competition, but hopefully that can be addressed at a later date.

Oh and lastly, stop obsessesing over money and how much we paid for this or that player. I'm as disgusted as most about the obscene amounts thrown around, but it is what it is and there is no
stopping it. We can't just operate in our own little bubble while the rest of the league gets on with it. We have record revenue and a TV deal which is showing no signs of diminishing ( in fact will probably increase), not to mention the guaranteed CL money this season and a lot of money coming in for outgoing players and a big chunk off the wage bill......and if somebody mentions the stadium again I may punch myself repeatedly in the face.

Too many budding accountants on here if you ask me, who seem far more interested in analysing and worrying about our financial accounts than what happens on the pitch... chill out, don't worry about it. Accounting is over rated anyway.

I should know..... I'm an accountant :).

As promised - Transfer info I was given last week
Last week I had a deep conversation with somebody who has Poch's ear, for obvious reasons I will not name them.

Poch and Levy agreed to trim the squad numbers and remove the squad players that Poch felt were not of the required quality for whatever reason, this would allow him to bring n a few quality players. With big savings on wages it would also give us flexibilty in the market.

Poch after signing Wanyama and Jansen wanted to bring a quick wing forward, ACM and another CM, to give the squad more depth and options, he believes some of the reasons we failed last year to win the LG, was the poor quality once we had to bring in some of the squad players and the lack of plan B and C as too many players offered us anything else.

He wanted players that he could tweak positions for so he could use less players but never see a drop in quality. He wanted Mane but we could never match the wages offered to him by Liverpool without creating issues in the squad. He then switched to GNK which would have been done 6 weeks ago but for Marsille.

Contrary to rubbish spouted in Media we agreed terms with the player yesterday, Poch tried really hard to convince Isco to come but he said NO as did Coric, who we be back in for but so I suspect will half of Europe.

The only issue with our strategy is the way Levy does his business, but he does have to balance the books.

Poch is happy to move players about so I don't think we will necessarily see a first X1 more a 16 that will be rotated players often having positional changes ie Alli could well be seen at CM/ACM/ or out wide of the 3 midfield. Same applies to a lot of the other players at the club, it will also allow the youngsters he game time and he rates them very highly, he does not like to loan out Kids he sees potential in that he think he can use in the squad, he also believes that he needs to give some players more rest time.

In Poch I trust

We should walk out with Chirpy at the front carrying a banner with the 'flayed man' sigil on it.

They'd shit it.

Nice stuff, and kinda what I'd hoped was going on. Convincing Isco was always gonna be tough, unless Zidane had frozen him out.

Hopefully Edwards can show us some guile and creativity when given the chance, the sort of thing Eriksen should be doing.

So it seems the only real issue Poch had was not getting in mane but he must have understood he can't be given 13=20,00 plus a week

Isco/Coric would have been the final piece

Would appear Levy and Poch are a match made in heaven.
Levy has his methods and budgets, and Poch isn't the second coming of Harry demanding player after player and being let down. The youth will get their chance, the squad will be supplemented as and where needed inline with pochettino's wishes, and they'll improve as a group and individually under his coaching.

Seems the only thing slightly out of sync is us the fans (as a generalisation). We have to trust that the current set up and policy will work and fully support them in a ll aspects, stadium build, transfer strategy, player acquisitions, the lot.

GK: Hugo - Vorm - Lopez (Vorm to go next year)

RB: Walker - Trippier - Dier (if needed)

LB: Rose - Davies - Jan (desperate measures)

LCB: Verts - Wimmer
RCB: Toby - Dier - CCV (to get some game time)

CM: Dembele - Sissoko - Alli
DCM: Dier - Wanyama
Onomah (Eventual position) Winks (to be blooded) Carroll (To see some minutes)

AMR: Lamela - Sissoko - Onomah
AML: Eriksen - Son - N'Koudou - Alli - Onomah
AMC: Alli - Eriksen - Kane - Dembele - Lamela

ST: Kane - Janssen

It's a lean and versatile squad, with better balance, more pace and more options than last season. (Two up top, two holding midfielders to close down games). I also thinks it means we can be more fluid between formations as matches change.

Still work to be done on the guile and creativity side, but with fresh eyes this morning I'm pretty happy with what we're going into the season with.

the best part of any transfer window though has to be Spurs Community, @Archibald&Crooks, @Rob and all the staff that try to keep these threads open for us addicts.

the only annoying thing is the amount of times the thread goes off topic, either too many people can't be bothered to read the rules or request from A&C.

I apologies if i was guilty of going off track, most of the time i try to read every thread from page 1 to the finish but was guilty a few times of not doing so, though I'm not a massive poster when it comes to transfers.

anyway a big thanks to all the staff for creating the best place on the internet, the only place I would ever pay a subscription for to join if it was required (wished i could up my monthly donations)

edit: 1 last apology for leaving all those that feed us @JJetset, @Trix, @Grey Fox, @The Goat goat (whoever they are, when news is broke) @THFCSPURS19 for his hard work, and finally Spurs Community's super whore the 1 and only @dovahkiin
