People can claim others are overreacting but from what I can see...

We have played shit the start of the season and that's down to missing one man, Dembele.

How can we go into the season where we have CL relying on someone who can't effectively play two games a week.

Instead of finding a quality alternative to him, we are looking at the bleak potential of PL games with an axis of Wanyama and DIer (that's granted they aren't injured/suspended too)

As for our attacking options, all but Lamela are out of form and look devoid of ideas, fresh ,quality blood was needed.

Yep and Eriksen knows no matter how he performs he's going to be in the starting 11.

I am sure there are other clubs who can pull a list like this together and chances are we weren't even in for half of them but you do just feel like crying sometimes anyway.

Wonder who will be our January names? Answers on a postcard.

But we should be proud that the PL Club is the most successful at making money on player sales over the last 5 years. Can any club compete with Spurs on that count? No. As long as we're top of one league (this one particular) we shouldn't be too concerned at our PL position. After all if we finish out of the top four this season we'll have some quality players asking for a move and Levy is a master at extracting huge sums on player sales. We'll be even more unassailable in the money league. Didn't ITK say at some point that the stadium build would not impact player acquisitions? I really believe that one.

And net spend zero shouldn't be taken as an indication of a lack of ambition by the Club to field a competitive squad this season - it should be taken as a firm indication that Spurs is a well-managed club.

Hurrah for Daniel Levy! I'm sure that Pochettino is cheering the loudest of us all...

Didn't realise that the BSoDL presidency race has started again ;)

I wonder what the hold up is with Gkn, n'jie and Pau being announced. Have they also been subjected to last minute twists and turns.

It's all well and good having a smaller squad if we were just competing in the league, but we have 3 other competitions to worry about.

I look forward to Poch telling us how happy he is with our "unbeliebable sqauw" tomorrow.

"Can't believe we're starting the season without a defensive midfielder. Yeah Dier's played there in pre-season, but he's hardly gonna do it all year is he? Our back-up centre-half as a defensive midfielder in a team that's supposed to challenge for the Top 4, we're a laughing stock. We'll finish below Palace and Stoke - just look at who they've signed".

I think that summarises the mood last year.

It also goes to show that most of you, including me, know absolutely fuck all.

I remember people praising the business Villa and Newcastle did.

If no other players come in the squad is very thin with all the competitions we are taking part in.

Please Daniel use your magic.

What magic? I've been following Spurs for four years now and all I remember on deadline day was Dempsey. VDV was before that and seems to be the only reason Levy has this rep for deadline day deals. He hasn't done anything recently on deadline day.

You may be just speaking out of blind hope for something, which I appreciate it because we are all likely hanging on to that since there isn't anything else to hang onto with the ITK today.

Money is clearly there to sign someone to the tune of £20 million or so..

Guess we have to just hope and pray for a left field signing at this stage

The problem with Chadli is his form fell off a cliff. The problem with saying we've replaced him with an unknown is as you say - we've no idea how good he is/will be, how long he will take to adjust etc.

The other side of it is that Chadli could've just been suffering a temporary loss of form and this season could've come back as the guy who scored hatfuls the season before last and was one of the first names on the team-sheet.

It's this idea of shipping out players who aren't utterly perfect and constantly on mega-form I don't like. Poch seems to have absolutely zero capacity for standards dropping (unless it's Kane), which simply isn't practical in sport.

I think with Chadli it was more fundamental than that, the guy just couldn't work the pressing/cohesion thing at all. He was mentally lazy or just incapable of grasping it.

We haven't strengthened the first team in the slightest. Surely that's not up for debate? If everyone is fit and available our best first 11 is the same team from last season.

That's what bothers me. Yes our squad options are a bit better. But to me you should always be looking at ways to improve your starting team and we haven't done that.

Where could we improve the first eleven? That's a genuine question, and I think the answer is that it would be a real struggle - we're at that tricky level just below the elite where improving our first eleven means competing with the top clubs. There are better players out there than the ones we have in just about every position - but could we realistically expect to sign a better striker than Kane, a better goalkeeper than Lloris, a better defensive mid than Dier, a better left back than Rose?

This time last year I'd have said Walker was the obvious weak link in our first choice eleven who could be improved upon, but I don't think that's the case any more - he's improved rapidly, and there aren't many top right backs around. As of right now I'd say Vertonghen has plateaued and we could probably improve on him, but am I underestimating his importance to Alderweireld's performances? Or his importance to the balance of the squad given that he's the most experienced of a large group of Belgians at the club?

There's an argument that Eriksen or Alli could be improved upon, but it's incredibly difficult to sign top players in that position, as shown by our inability to sign Isco - he's not wanted by Madrid, we're in the Champions League and he STILL isn't interested. That's just the way it is.

Based on last season, I don't think anyone can say our first eleven was the problem - we did brilliantly with a small squad and only collapsed at the start and end of the season when we didn't have the eventual first eleven all together. The problem was the depth of the players behind the first eleven, and that's been improved significantly.

So if we're where we were last season, why is everyone so catatonic with rage, depression and a general sense of impending doom?

Last season was okay no?

Yes yes others have strengthened but for Jebus' sake people need to get a grip. It's genuinely sad how some people react.

Understatement of the decade that one.

Utd will be a serious force to be reckonded with when you look at players they've signed and Mourinho in charge (and limitless funds they still have).

City will be a serious force for same reasons, maybe more so given Pep's history with other clubs.

Chelsea are looking to re-ignite their PL winning form and even Arsenal have done as much strengthening over the summer now as us.

The chances of us getting top 4 this season with the squad we have as of right this moment is slim IMO. I'm hopeful of at least two more signings being announced today to placate this slightly (GKN and Sissoko).

But promotes youth in its place - but because that doesn't cost £30m a pop, people lose their mind.
We'd have to play the likes of Winks as a genuine rotation option then. How would he cope against CSKA or against teams like Stoke?
