According to Duncan Castles, AVB "has been asked to work on an unexpectedly tight budget in the current transfer window."

:(

Was that by any chance in a Sulia link?

According to me, "Duncan Castles has been asked (by himself) to work exclusively on Sulia to make money out of exaggerating football stories in the current transfer window." (y)

Don't see a problem with this. Telling the media we have no money is better than saying we're going to fork out £40 million and getting held up for high pay. We're not Chelsea. We aren't going to accept a ridiculous number right off the bat just so we can have a shiny new toy. ITK is split 50/50 on we have money or we have no money. Common sense says it's there. We didn't bid £24 million get an extension and lose by six minutes on purpose.

Think when deadline day arrives something good will happen. Whether it be plan a/b/c/d. Lloris fell into our lap without supposed pursuit. Dempsey was bought. Obviously we want better form from him but at 6 million he wasn't a bad option d.

If nothing is done by the 30th I think we'll end up with Sneijder or Belhanda... maybe Willian. Players who want to be here or are not cared about at their club.

I know we have Injuries and issues but if there really is no value in this window then I'm happy for us to leave our business as it is, although I would like holtby to get in now.

For days and days you lot have been banging on about Holtby being a good attacking m/f option.

so why would we bring him in early to fill the SANDRO gap?

Someone elaborate for me, or I'll assume that you're all talking b*ll*cks... like normal. ;)

Basically Holtby plays in the middle area on the pitch so obviously he'll be able to be a CDM.

Once again, I don´t know whether this has been posted, but:

From what I can gather there was no obvious tear from the scans, but some considerable swelling around the knee joint. Exploratory operation went well but won't know exact comeback date until recovered post-op. Welcome back Scott Parker. Now do a job on Carrick please.

EDIT: Oh yeah... should have gone into Spurs Chat... Sorry A&C...

INCOMING!!!!!...........................

Well its not unexpected to me and I doubt it's unexpected to anyone else on here. I really doubt it was to avb, he would only have to look back on our recent previous January windows to see that. Not sure I believe the journo on that.

I believe he can play Dembele role.... he started as a DM, I mean Holtby, but his natural position is roam behind a big fast striker.... hee. As for the Sandro position, only Makelele can fill in..:bigtears:

I don't believe Duncan Castles has the inside scoop many believe.

Duncan Castles has no inside track. He has a record of confidently asserting information that is wrong- Chelsea have signed Modric or we are about to sign Damiao from Inter Milan(!)- as he said a couple of years ago.

This very well might be true but then on the other hand if we do have a bit of money to spend we aren't likely to shouting about it and thus drive up the prices on our targets. If there were reports going round that we had a £50m war chest then every chairman that we try to deal with would try to inflate the prices.

I fully expect in the next day or so to see Daniel Levy standing on top of the West Stand singing "If I were a Rich Man" from Fiddler on the Roof and go and bid £5 and a packet of Haribo for Moutino.

What nonsense. Castles was the only one at the end of the last window who didn't, at any point, jump on the 'Moutinho done' bandwagon.

said Walcott was going to put pen and paper together yesterday didn't happen. Why anybody takes anybody's words without a tablespoon (yes tablespoon) of salt is now beyond me.

I don't think some people appreciate how shallow our striker options are in the current squad. We are in a dogfight for fourth place as things currently stand, and 1 of our 2 recognized, regular strikers is gone for a month. That leaves Defoe, who has a propensity to fade as the season progresses. In fact, in the last 7 league games, Defoe has 1 goal on 28 shots. Even when Adebayor returns, he doesn't provide the type of finishing acumen we need to take advantage of our midfield's service.

We need another quality striker if we want to finish in 4th place. It's no different than the last two January's, where inaction and austerity ended up costing us 60 million pounds of Champions League revenue. We didn't have to break the bank then, nor do we now, to fill our need. There are quality strikers out there who can do the job. Negredo is available, is a complete centre-forward, and has a cannon for a left-leg. He would be perfect. But he won't be had on a free.

Those who say "let's wait until the summer" to address the striker situation need to realize that there will be serious fallout from failing to finish in the top 4 this season. A part of it is less incoming money from not qualifying for CL, and another part is our current stars become vulnerable to being unsettled. It wouldn't remotely surprise me if we finished 5th, and all of a sudden Bale was vigorously courted by Madrid, Sandro by Milan, and Vertonghnen by City or any number of clubs, and all three left. These guys may be loyal to Spurs, but if we can't at least give them Champions League football once in a while, they'll eventually be off to clubs that can provide it, on top of more money.

We all know it's going to come down to the wire again with us and Arsenal. We need to be pro-active, as the team who has more options up top between us will ultimately finish fourth.

I'm with KoO here. I think many have mentioned previously that he has a close relationship with AVB.

Bandwagon jumping of the "I don't like the message so I'll rubbish the messenger" kind is counter-productive to getting good info.

And as already mentioned, AVB can (and should) be trusted to speak the truth about as much as Harry, albeit in a very different way. Pleading poverty through one of his usual outlets shouldn't be unexpected.
