He'd be an idiot to go to Bayern at this stage IMO- did he not see what happened to Shaqiri!!!

That's fair, but I don't think they expected Robben to continue doing what he's done. In fact, I would say Robben's even improved since the time they bought Shaqiri. Ribery however, while still contributing, is on a steady decline. I don't think he'd impede Depay's time at all, especially since Ribery is already seeing his starts slip. So unfortunately I'm not sure the two situations are/would be the same.

Fucks sake.

To be honest, while I'd love Depay (and would still take him no matter what), I think we need an improvement to RM, not LM.

Understandable. We lack consistency on either side though, and I think both of our current left mids are better suited to other positions, while at right mid we at least have two young players capable of improvement. Really don't care though at this point. As long as we go out and get some pace and directness somewhere for either flank, I'm perfectly content.

Watched him on Sunday - switched between both flanks with ease.

Knows when to attack the area if the striker comes short.

Explosive with the ball or running in behind.

Left or Right, he's just an outrageously good footballer.

Has he got a younger brother? Seriously though, is this guy the only one out there in the World or are there good or viable alternatives? This years Hazard or Willian.

I do hope we have proper plans B & C in the pipeline also if or when it all falls down.

Edit - Oh and we all knew about him a year ago - so why didn't we take a flyer then?

We did, apparently he rejected and opted to stay another year to further develop himself.

He kind of does actually.

Jean-Paul Boetius at Feyenord is the more attainable version, who we've been heavily linked with.

If you're not aware (I wasn't until January) less explosive, but far cheaper and would improve us.

In the £10-15m bracket I would guess.

Some paper ran a piece in December saying Levy had asked Mitchell for a long list of both senior players and prospects for each position.

I would imagine to get away from this Target A or bust strategy which has hindered us in the past.

Hopefully the good thing about having full time recruitment specialists is to have a bit more imagination in the market - and not get so hell bent on one Target A or bust.

Thauvin could be an alternative option now that Marseille have signed Ocampos.

Ocampos is on loan I think, Tbf him or thauvin would be great, too expensive for us I'd think.

The om chairman said we bid for thauvin at the end of the 2014 Jan transfer window, they'd only signed him 6 months earlier, missed the boat on him

firstly apologies if posted, ive had a search and look and cant find it anywhere. secondly apologies for not posting this back when i should have, somehow i missed it..

prof/galahad on coys 7 feb 2015:
Jan Vertonghen

(1) He saw, and tried to deal with, the same issues as the Kane Mutineers, i.e. the undue influence that a few players had over the rest of the team, the manager, and team selection. The difference is that when he tried to change it, he did it alone, and failed, after which he became somewhat ostracised and disillusioned, which impacted his attitude and performances.

(2) He supported the Kane group in their efforts to 'clean the stables'.

(3) He's chosen to take Dier under his wing and is mentoring him.

(4) He's happy, playing decently and is passionate about wanting THFC to succeed.

All the warm and fuzzy feelings.
