I have no idea how the negotiation process works but I would imagine talks are pretty advanced given what JJ has said. No fee agreed yet obviously and I'm sure there will be a lot of sticking points...like sell on clauses etc.

Yeah but its not a statement as such from the Club.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...e-to-keep-him-out-of-clutches-of-Chelsea.html

from last week

A Villa statement read: "Having received his transfer request, we have also informed him that should we receive an offer within an appropriate timeframe during preseason which meets our valuation we would act upon it.

It was hardly a secret that they return on Thursday and he wants to leave. It's not a deadline as such, I should have corrected that in the post I quoted, but they will meet and discuss it. Besides, I didn't say 'deadline' myself - forgive me, I'm at work and it's Ramadan so there's no bloody food or drink in the office..

Planted a seed of doubt into the minds of the previously certain minded from here.

I'm still very confident we'll get him. Would of been far more concerned if the Journo had came out with something concrete that suggested we wouldn't get him. Which he didn't.

Yeah I saw that. It is obvious there is a deadline, I just mean they weren't explicit as to when it was. Cheers for digging all that up though (y)

i read his post as though he's inferring there has been no bid, thus debunking jetset's info.

I certainly took the first part of what you're saying...no bid that's he aware of yet.

But we don't know in what order things are done. It could be that talks are advanced and we are close to agreeing a price and then we put in an official bid which they are likely to accept because we've negotiated it? Seems eminently more sensible to do it that way if the time factor is relevant, which we all think it is. As opposed to playing the long game of putting in a low bid for it to be rejected, then coming back with another one which is rejected....and on, and on all summer.

Perhaps because the time frame is pertinent here the negotiation process is a little different. Hence the Journo hasn't heard of a concrete bid yet. That doesn't mean that we aren't in talks and they're progressing well, certainly not IMO.

Just my take on it.

A bid isn't just a suitcase of money either. Lawyers will have to write up contracts between the 2 clubs with all parts agreed, including add ons etc...
It would be a waste of time if negotiations hadn't occurred first to get an idea of what each party feels is acceptable.

a formal bid is a multi(and in our case multi multi ) page document with every clause payment stage add on criteria etc etc etc
specified down to the finest detail. Huge amount of work effort expense etc.to produce. Iirc what JJ said was that we believed we had a proposal that satisfied villas requirements, and were feeling confident that they would find it acceptable. We are now thrashing over the details with them...."early days yet but we are confident."..to paraphrase. No point making a formal bid until you know what it has to comprise of to meet sellers needs, much more efficient to hammer that all out in advance informally then only draw up the formal Bid itself when you know what it has to contain.
The actual bid itself will probably be almost the last thing to happen before the signing on the dotted line.(..or not.).stage.
So no I don't think this debunks or even contradicts JJ info in the least.

Not sure if we bid on players at all? We tend to agree fee through negotiation from what i gather?

Never see us on skysports 'spurs bid' like you tend to like a lot of other clubs

I get the feeling this whole saga might be a wee bit of a sticking point for Journo as he seems to be a bit less forthcoming. Usually Journo is good for responding to questions and expanding upon comments. Could also be that he doesn't want to harm his club by leaking any info
And fair play to him if that is the case.
None of the itk lot should put our hunger for itk ahead of their respective clubs.

About jj's info regarding hazard and how he wanted to come before we lost cl. If he see us line up with his country men benteke, dembele and verts with a vacant left forward role i wonder if he regret not coming.

Hazard - benteke - bale
Dembele- paulinho - sandro

Ah what could have been! Young side with a young manager and several other belgians. If by any chance mourinho dont rate him maybe we should try a cheeky bid for him.
(luckily the optimistic rating has been removed)

Yes, similar to what I was trying to say in much more general terms of course.

A bid happens at the end.

Its not like FM where you put in a "bid" then wait days for it to be rejected as such. There will be discussions. Offers and counter offers will be made. When we believe that we have enough info to make an offer we will. At this point we may discover that we misunderstood the discussions and find our bid is rejected. However more often then not, if we are discussing with a club who is looking to sell a player that is looking to move, by the time we get to the formal bid, we should have a high amount of confidence as to whether its likely to be accepted or not.

If we are at this stage with Benteke, then I'd be very confident in him signing

The creative one hasn't though! ;)

Love your thinking though!
