Not sure BC. Will Liverpool get more determined after the player has declared he's not interested?

Think Liverpool will see this as a personal smear on their 'once' great club. Can see them spouting off to the local press how they didn't want him anyway, he's over-rated and that they've bid for Messi. Ultimately though they'll sign Steven Fletcher for £30 million....

We don't though; I hate when people say this. We have potentially hundred's of millions to spend theoretically speaking. Just because Levy and co. felt justified forking out 20 million on two players; doesn't mean he will find a deal worthy of that in his eyes again this window. I'm sure if Messi came up for £50 million and wanted to come here; Levy would go for it. That's not to say we have '50 million' burning a hole in our pockets.

Of course we could from ENIC/Joe Lewis. Not saying it would ever happen just trying to demonstrate that our transfer budget isn't a set amount and losing out to Halilovic and Jedvaj doesn't mean now we've got an extra 20 million we're hellbent on spending.

I think people are just taking what has been written in The Guardian and Daily Mail as gospel. Even though there are no direct quotes from Benteke or his agent..

Absolutely ridiculous from Spurs (as is seeming to be the norm) for being willing to spend 17m Euros on a kid and offering him wages that aren't really in line with such a figure. Makes me sceptical if there's truth in the personal terms problem, well makes me want to be sceptical. I too couldn't fathom paying that much then haggling over the amount to pay him. Granted it adds up over the length of the contract but surely Levy recognises the potential profits if he develops as expected.

'A few thousand' in this case would seem to be £11k a week, which would have brought him up to £26k a week, a hell of a lot for a 17-years-old who's played a handful of matches and who for all we know might do a Bostock. There were reportedly other substantial inducements, and much of the ITK has suggested he wasn't too enthusiastic about us anyway, the little schmuck.

Would be a very tidy signing if true. Young, not hugely expensive. Ready as a first team player immediately with room to improve and in an area we really need to strengthen.

I'm waiting for the cruel punch line.

Still can't accept losing out on the Croatians... More frustrating that it was supposedly down to personal terms.

Would like to see us go in for some highly rated talent this window; can't see Levy forking out more than both those would of cost to secure Bernard though.

If its off its not necessarily Down to us not laying them enough. If they are that highly rated surely a bigger club than us are in for them! Maybe their heads have been turned by a superpower!
