We don't though; I hate when people say this. We have potentially hundred's of millions to spend theoretically speaking. Just because Levy and co. felt justified forking out 20 million on two players; doesn't mean he will find a deal worthy of that in his eyes again this window. I'm sure if Messi came up for £50 million and wanted to come here; Levy would go for it. That's not to say we have '50 million' burning a hole in our pockets.

That's true. The point being is that there is clearly money available should the right thing come along.
So to say we 'can't afford' Benteke or, anyone else based purely on the transfer price, is to miss the point.
Should a deal come along that is deemed decent value, then the Croat kids is an example that Levy is willing to splash the cash. Which as I mentioned in my original post, is a way to take some positive out of the failed deal for those youngsters.

We signed Paulinho
We signed Paulinho
We signed Paulinho

No other prem team has signed anyone better so why all the sad faces.
We also look to have kept Bale and we have signed Baldini who going forward has to be good.

If you believe then the Striker will come!

If we'd already signed a Striker you'd all still be here, August 31st, waiting for Levy time, even at 3am 1st August.

Then some fool would go start a 'Levy out' thread in Spurs Chat.

What some of you people need is a hobby. Or a higher appreciation of Porn. Either way, get the fuck out of here.
Don't you ever question my appreciation for porn.

Take that back!

The thing with the story about Halilovic turning us down is, the family say that now isn't the right time to move, yet we aren't asking him to move now, we want him to come next year.

Happiness is, a good book, a cold drink, something tasty to eat, lovely warm, hot, sunny weather, and having the right person to share it with.......4 out of 5 will have to do for now :)

Transfer wise it's been a pants week, but maybe next week will be a great one, who knows.

Cannot understand at all why we aren't in for Bony. He'll be yet another that we should have signed. Exactly the right sort of budget for us at £12m too.

He looks like another Papiss Cisse to me. Will probably do alright initially before being found out.

Same bs every year.I can't believe people actually believed it would be different this year. Expect us to buy a couple of attacking midfielders that we don't need on deadline day.

If all this is true, and I've no reason to doubt it, it's merely a polite way of telling us they're not interested because as you rightly say, if the timing was the issue then it wouldn't be an issue.

The misery is justifiable and self-inflicted.
Last week we were signing Paulinho, Villa, Jedvaj & Halilovic.
This week we've signed Paulinho but the other deals have turned to shit & we're trying to lowball Aston Villa by about £10m.
Every year at some point it looks like it's all going our way, then it suddenly doesn't...

I swear no other club has transfer windows like us.
What larks ;)

It is not a low ball offer if it is realistic. Anyone who thinks their is a case for Benteke costing as much or more than Huguain needs their head examined.

Ha, this is spot on. We'd unclench for a week. Maybe two. Then we'd desperately need another CB. Oh and a LB. Not to mention that we'd then have to get rid of one of JD and Ade and then sign another striker to cover that.

Do we need a new manager/head coach?

Never usually get angry, but we seem to have been rejected by Halilovic over a few thousand a week? Absolutely ridiculous from Spurs (as is seeming to be the norm) for being willing to spend 17m Euros on a kid and offering him wages that aren't really in line with such a figure. Can't we just call them and say we'll meet in the middle and everyone's a winner?
Seriously?

So you think it's acceptable to offer an 18 yr old unproven player €1.2m a year, plus a house, plus schools fees for the rest of the family??!!

It's a disgrace that we only offered €800,000 a year and a house!

And that's if the reports are true. Which is very tenuous.

If A&C had a word of the day I'm sure it would' be used here.

He's as much of a gamble as Benteke is for me though considering he's half the price. We'll never know if he's good enough until we sign him, if he's scored 31 goals last year he can't be a duffer. I like Benteke, but I actually think Bony looks like a more polished player.

Some very professional WUMs on here at the mo.

The club is in the best shape it's ever been in my 28 years of life and I have every faith that progress will continue with the management/board we have in place.

We'll miss out on some but I guarantee there'll be some unexpected bonuses along the way.
