Sounds to me Dembele is the big worry and with Sandro coming off a big injury, Paulinho and McCarthy may both be deemed necessary.

Hi Mate.

I know you've said Sandro and Kaboul are in light training but I also see they're in the Asia Trophy squad. Is this for them to get minutes? I assume this is the case as not even our medical staff would be stupid enough to send them to Asia without them planning to play.

Yeah their due to both play both well ahead of schedule. . Sandro is nearly there and kaboul is nearly there once there is no swelling with the knee.

Haha the old medical team. kaboul was out for a season because the medical team risked him. I have zero faith,in fact get me some dettol and plasters I shall have a crack at the job myself.

just to keep on track with the thread. Khumalo has officially requested to leave. (Not that he needed to to be fair)

Long time lurker, donated $25 AUD which at current exchange rates is close to what our first offer for Benteke looks like being. We seem to be great at securing up deals for players on the market who are good value, not so great at seeking out players to fill a specific need.

I can only hope the ITK on McCarthy is wrong. He is ok but won't improve the team and we don't need midfield players but yes strikers.

Is like the roof of the house is missing and Levy keeps repainting the front door!

First of all just to follow suit.... I want/we need a striker or two!!

Secondly, the way I see the overal plan. (Obviously this may not happen) is for us to sell:
Parker,
Hudd,
Livermore.

Now we all agree that we believe the you g lad Caroll has a big future and we all want him to get some game time and be a success for us! But the issue is QUALITY game time is required! So like Walker and Caulker maybe AVB/Levy see this season a loan being the best option....to a prem club only (hopefully).

If this happens.... The signing of McCarthy (who has already experienced quality game time in the prem) could make sense!

We would then have
Sandro,
Dembele,
Paulinho,
McCarthy,
Siggy,
Hotby

Who are all more than capable to start for us in a midfield 3.

But we DO need some strikers!! Regardless of whether we keep Defoe and ade we need a new striker!!

Benteke please!!! Then we can relax a little

McCarthy is a decent player but would be a weird signing when you consider we have Holtby and Carroll who should be floating around those central areas.

although they say AVB wants two players for each position

Sandro, Pauliniho, Demeble, Holtby, Carroll, McCarthy....................that works for me

McCarthy would be a decent squad player and would keep CM's on their toes hopefully, it's not all about players coming into first XI, remember how unstuck we came when Lennon/Bale were injured.

I can't see us going in big on McCarthy, he's a good player for sure but last season he was allowed to play a roaming role because of the state of the team and the impact he had. AVB wouldn't give Bale and McCarthy in the same 4-3-3 a roaming position and I believe he'll be less effective. as a result I don't think he's a AVB signing. Especially not for the numbers quoted.

McCarthy makes sense IF we mange to move the aforementioned players but the priority should really be a creative wide forward such as Bernard and a striker such as Benteke. I would be very disappointed if we getting McCarthy ment compromising on ether of those positions. Sad to hear Levy, not AVB, wants Chadli as i really feel a wing forward is just as important as a striker and a position we shouldn't be cutting corners on finically. Fair enough if AVB loves him but he doesnt seem to and every ITK seems to mention Chadli as plan B. I would be quite happy with a midfield of Pauly, Sandro, Demb, Holtby, Carroll and Livermore if it ment we could get Bernard. After all we dont have to stick to three in midfield, we can always swap to a 4231. Overall i would be very happy with McCarthy but only after the other two positions have been sorted out properly and no corners have been cut.

McCarthy would be a shrewd buy if we can manage to offload Scotty, Ploddermore and Ploddlestone.

Paulinho/Sandro/Dembele/McCarthy/Carroll gives good options for a midfield 3. Possibly throw Holtby into that mix as well.
What do you mean possibly throw holtby in the mix? Where else will he play he is a Cm and so is siggy in a 433 his natural position is cam and in a 433 he would be the most advanced one like at Swansea at times

McCarthy is pure class - the team that picks him up will not regret it.

If it's us who sign him, we should be delighted as he would be a great signing for us. He can do the Box to box job, and equally is comfortable playing in either a holding role or playing as an advanced midfielder. One of his greatest assets at the moment (IMO) is his maturity, for a player only 22 years of age (23 in November), he is a fantastic leader on the pitch.

Looking at it from Levy's point of view, if he is a successful signing we could easily sell on for £15million+, and if it doesn't work out, we can still sell for around £8-10million.

Would be great to have an Irish player back at the club too - I'm not going to deny that!!! ;)

Absolutely agree. Parker, Huddlestone & possibly Livermore aren't good enough for a side with top 4 and above ambitions. If we're selling all 3 we need another CM as well as Paul, especially as you say, Dembele will always be a worry. As long as it doesn't prevent us from signing Benteke and another wide forward, i'm absolutely all for it.

What sort of money would Whealan accept for one of his major tickets back into the big time though?

And it'd be nice if the members of SC took a minute to pause and think of coopsieyid. He's just coming around from general anaesthetic and still he's on here, posting drivel. A magnificent display of committment.

i'm sure SC will join me in wishing him well with the op and in hoping that he can start using his new vagina as soon as possible.
