That I agree with - but hey if you want to back Conte and he wants Bastoni but he is only available this summer and he wil come if we wait then what do you do...

Our strategy certainly needs work
You do realise that this happens every window lol We always say let’s go for them the next window and still don’t get our top targets!

I’m tired of it now it’s becoming frustrating, why can’t we get our top targets in the windows! It’s a common theme and I don’t have the answers, just saying it’s not acceptable!

Well aren't you demanding!

( truthfully - we probably need 3 CBs because we have waited so long to re-fresh. Lenglet is out, and needs replacing, Sanchez should be sold and replaced, and we need to upgrade Davies.)
Yeah thats what I mean.

We needed the rebuild from Poch days.

Instead we signed a lot of inadequate players (Doherty, Bergwijn, Rodon, Emerson, Reguillon, Ndombele).

One by one weve realised they were not up to it. So weve had to continue with the players who have been here too long (Dier, Davies, etc)

Which now means we are still trying to upgrade the same positions we have been for 3 years or so whilst further problem positions are developing.

I agree we could've done more and in 2 windows we could've done better than just Lenglet at CB, but effecively saying 'Conte isn't unreasonable to instantly demand an entire squad of 40m+ quality players' is a bit much.
When has he "instantly" demanded everything? This is now his third transfer window - and he hasn't walked out - yet.

We can all agree that these are big holes to fill - but we can't keep ignoring them in the hopes they resolve on their own. The longer we take - the bigger, and more expensive the task.

We go into the summer requiring 2CBs, a GK and AM. If Kane doesnt sign on or/and Son doesnt get his form back, we need another attacker.

That could be up to 200m. Which isn't exactly something we do.

We may even need another CM to upgrade Hojbjerg and Id like a third CB to perhaps be be an understudy/step in for Romero.
Yup. Post Jose we basically needed an entire new 11 barring Son and Kane...and with those 2 fading it could well soon be the full 11. We're currently about 1/2 way through the rebuild but it's going to take a lot more money and a couple more windows to do it.

5 years of failed/middling signings, no long term vision and poor squad building will do that to a team.

Bad news from the Tottenham - the fax machine has run out of toner and Daniel can’t get through on the phone to staples

Just how demanding is Conte?

He wants a starting caliber RWB - is that too demanding?

He wants a starting caliber CB (or 2) - is that too demanding?

He wants a backup RW - is that too demanding?

Just what exactly is Conte demanding that is unreasonable? These are all positions that need upgrading, no matter the manager...
I agree completely. I'm not saying at all he is too demanding. Just that the board knew he wouldn't tow the company line like others, they knew it would end quickly and still went ahead. Like I said I think they were just trying to buy more time, or they are hopelessly deluded - 50/50 on those I'd imagine unfortunately.

My point was more that we basically needed to sign 9 first team players when Conte joined - especially since he immediately bombed out players other managers may have used like Lo Celso, Reguilon, Gil, Bergwijn etc.

If we'd signed 2 top CBs straight away people would be bitching about us not upgrading in other positions instead. It's like whack-a-mole. We have too many positions to improve at once due to mistakes we've made in the past.

Does anyone know who plays if Kulu is injured? Gil was starting to actually perform as his backup but is now on loan. I don't like Richy on that side. Danjuma? I thought Conte likes left-footers to play on the right and cut inside.

If you cannot get your top target then use your trusty loan with obligation trick and line it up for the next window. I'm sure then you would get Hincapie or Kilman and although it would be frustrating at least it could demonstrate a plan and we would get the player we wanted eventually. See what Arsenal did for Saliba or Liverpool did with a midfielder whose name escapes me.

We spend months on players like Bastoni and are then told he wont leave the country or that Dybala has some image rights issue. We don't seem to even do the basic research and i'm meant to believe that in the next window we'll replace Hugo and rebuild the core of the defence

I bet we don’t sign all three of those that are straight into the first XI players of high level and an upgrade in the summer.

That’s the line levy will be spinning out for sure.

Whether people want to take this as PR spin or not, its a fact that needs to be taken into account. If Conte leaves in summer (due to family issues or whatever), new manager coming in would want his imprint on the squad...right from the kind of GK he might want.

So, for me its perfectly understandable, with the window we had.

Had Conte committed beyond 6 months now, then I would most definitely question not addressing GK & CB in this window.

But again, you say who is available right now? I'll counter that by saying Conte has gone through multiple windows now asking for a CB. So it's not who is available now, it's who could we have got in having 8 months of knowing this?

So we couldn't get one in the Summer, fine. So use the next 6 months to make sure you do get one at the next opportunity? Why have we waited till deadline day again to find out we can't get one again?

The fact is, this is a recurring theme and has been for years

Think you'll find its been more than a decade

Starting to wonder if we'll announce Kulu being officially signed up tonight/tomorrow with the other two only being loans at this point. ??‍♂️

The only thing I can think of is that we haven't invested as we should have done due to how many question marks hang over the club.

Will Conte still be with us in 6 months?!
Will Levy still be in charge?!
Will be be subject to a full takeover?! Will we have a small % investment?! Will Kane still be with us?! Will Paratici still be here?!

So many unknowns and much like Liverpool, I guess the club aren't willing to spend more money when there are so many uncertainties hanging over the club.

I am in complete agreement with you, it's a shambles year after year, every window the same issues. It won't change until Levy goes and we have some serious investment or change of ownership.

Every window I'm sucked in with optimism and believing what I'm told about the business we plan to do. Yet we ALWAYS fall short of what we need. Danjuma in and Gil out means we have no further attacking options from the bench if needed. Yes Danjuma gives us a pace option, but he's currently a complete unknown as to how he will settle. Porro is a fantastic addition and credit where it's due, without Levy it wouldn't have happened. But does Levy feel that's enough to save his skin and some fan backlash for the next few months?! Well it isn't anywhere near enough, because our main problems are GK and CBs and we have addressed none of them.

Porro is a fantastic addition, I'm very excited that he's joined us. But when we continue to see mistake after mistake for the remainder of the season from the same players, well the club only have themselves to blame for where we end up. It's going to take a Conte masterclass to get us top 4.

Rant over, COYS!

Yep 200m on top of having to make Kulu permanent which is £40m off the summer budget and then Porro becomes Permanent another £40m so we are already £80m into what ever budget we had. Considering we had an injection of 150m (50m of which wasn't taken) we have spent around 45m of money within the club (100m was covered by the injection) its an absolute joke. Keep kicking the can down the road and the illusion of strengthening every window when that's not a fair reflection. We have 8 players out on loan with only 1 really having a future at the club and 3 or 4 in the club that need to be moved on. I wait in anticipation for little movement in the summer as new manager needs to assess the squad/we need to sell before we can buy. We have had 1 good window in the last 4 years

But a new manager needs better centre backs or a new goalie anyway! I bet if he was sitting here with 3 years on his contract it would be no different. We’ve been here so many times before!
